Questions / Comments from I JethroBT (WMF)

Hi Uzoma Ozurumba, and thanks for your idea to plan a morning radio show highlighting various topics on English Wikipedia. I'm Chris Schilling, a community organizer working with the Wikimedia Foundation to support this campaign. I'm interested in supporting your idea and help you implement it. Here are some comments and questions I have for your idea:

• I'm not sure if you were involved with this radio program from the Wikimedia User Group Nigeria (WUGN), but if not, I would encourage you to review their grant proposal, their report that summarizes some of their outcomes, and the main page for the radio show on Meta.
• Related to the above point, you should arrange to talk with Olaniyan Olushola, who led the project and radio program, and would likely be able to offer you some advice and help. Shola, if you have comments or questions, you are welcome to add them here as well.
• The idea of asking listeners to search for Wikipedia content to answer specific questions is an interesting idea. I think it might be challenging sometimes to find information that is specific to Wikipedia that wouldn't be known generally, but there are some areas on English Wikipedia, like Did you Know? that might be useful for finding information that might not be ordinarily known about some topics-- and would require listeners to scan articles. Are there other ways you are thinking about "Who Am I? What Am I?" questions that would require listeners to use Wikipedia?

Hi I JethroBT (WMF) Thank you for your interest and anticipated support in my idea. I was not involved with the project in Lagos; however, i would review the grant proposal and talk with Olaniyan Olushola for more insight.

About asking listeners to search for specific answers in Wikipedia, i understand that it might be challenging, so i think your idea of focusing on unique features of articles in Did you Know? is a good one as it is close to what i had in mind.

I thought about questions in On this day column and In the news, we can also ask for the title of "Today's featured pictures" and the name of the artist, or ask for characteristics and specific information about the picture in "Today's featured pictures". These are my thoughts so, what do you think?

Please i am open to any conversation that would improve this idea.

Thank you JethroBT for your interest in this idea and sorry for replying late as i did not get a notification of this in my mail. Below are answers to your questions:

1. Describe one or two versions of this idea that are smaller than your initial one.

Answer: A smaller version of this idea would be to have the popular radio presenter of ‘Who am I? What am I?’ to post question on their social media handle that would require followers of the social media handle to find the answer in Wikipedia and then reply; the fastest finger then gets a reward.

2. List three assumptions about your project and why you think those assumptions are true (see the document for some examples).

Answer: A. The radio station will give us a spot (work with us) on this project: Find it on Wikipedia! This is true because I have contacted the presenter on the posibility of a spot on the program based on terms that would be agreed on, and his response was possitive.

B. Listeners of the show will to participate. This is true ones there would be a reward for the fastest finger.

C. Listeners would find the answers to the questions and the answers would be found only in Wikipedia. This is true because, listeners would be directed to where to find the answers. To ensure that answers would only be found in Wikipedia, questions would be derived from On this day column, In the news and also from "Today's featured pictures" in Wikipedia.

3. List three skills or resources you don’t have, that you need for this project to succeed.

Answer: A. Graphic skills to advertise the project in social media

B. Funds to provide stipends for the presenter (already anchoring the program)

C. Funds to pay for segment airtime to the radio station and token for winners.

4. How can you determine if your project is successful?

Answer: A. If listeners find the answer to questions in Wikipedia B. Increased Wikipedia page views from this region C. Uploads of pictures on social media of the weekly winners (They will sign a media release form that allows their images to be shared on social media)

Rapid Grant applications due March 15th

If you think you may need funding for your idea, Rapid Grants are available for ideas submitted during this campaign. Grant applications for ideas related to new readers are due by March 15th, 2018 (23:59 GMT). You can convert your idea into a Rapid Grant proposal by clicking on the Expand into a Rapid Grant button at the bottom of your idea page. While applications for Rapid Grants can normally be submitted at any time, we have implemented a deadline for ideas on this specific topic. Hello Uzoma Ozurumba thank you for answering I JethroBT (WMF)'s questions. I am happy to approve your grant request for Find it On Wikipedia. One thing I've noted is the cost of air time is substantial to make this project sustainable. Please consider trying the smaller version you proposed where the popular radio presenter of 'who am I? What am I?' uses their social media handle to ask their followers these questions during the weeks the radio show will not be running to compare if that would be a sustainable alternative. Looking forward to reviewing your grant report and how this project will unfold. It was nice to meet you in Indaba and learn about the work you're doing in Abuja and now here on the inspire campaign. Thank you WJifar (WMF) for the approval, and I look forward to executing this project. About what you said concerning the smaller version that I proposed, I would like you to clarify if this would just be a trial to ascertain if it will work? (peradventure we decide to scale down the project in future) while we execute the main project as planned.

Furthermore, I would want to know if the winner of this "smaller trial version" will be rewarded?

Hello Uzoma Ozurumba, I was thinking it would be a trial to ascertain if it will work while you're running your main project. The idea being for the future you can run the smaller version with prizes without the cost of airtime. In this trail version I wasn't thinking there would be prizes. Project Discussion/Update: Changing the start date to 30th April

Hi WJifar (WMF), I had a meeting with the Radio presenter of the show (Who am I What am I) and based on our discussion, he pointed out that "Monday" always records the highest participants of the show. So am thinking of starting the project on Monday which is on 30th April instead of May 1st that is in my Contract Agreement. Is it okay to do this?

Also the token would be in cash which would be transferred into the winner's account after he/she has fulfilled all requirements. This method would be better as it encourages more people to participate from remote areas because, they don't need to come in person to claim their prize.

Hi WJifar (WMF), Thank you for your response. I guess voucher codes for winners to pick specific gift item from a departmental store with outlets across Nigeria would be okay (I hope so...).
