@Liz Homme: Hi Liz, the prospect of paying editors for their work has come up in some projects already. Content on our projects is directly written by volunteers, and it's fair to say that volunteerism is a fundamental part of work in our projects. See, for example, this page on the English Wikipedia. You will need to present a fairly persuasive case that paying editors at a large scale as this proposal suggests is going to be beneficial, and how the concerns about paid editing generally can be addressed. The point of blockchain

edit

The point of blockchain based systems is essentially to function as a distributed database upon which financial ledger information is stored. If Wiki information was stored, the blockchain size would be huge, and very, very few people would participate in the network, thus destroying the purpose of the distributed database. It's already possible to download Wiki project content, this means the data is already distributed. About payment, unless someone in particular wants to buy Wikicoin, then there is no market value for it so you can't swap or trade it for anything useful/desirable. Blockchain is Wiki.

edit

JethroBT & Pratyeka, thanks for comments. However, what you say is static (old-fashioned). You do not have a factor to develop Wiki. Do you know "Ripple" (;you can get points for the study of cancer)? Or do you know "Steem" (;you can get points for contribution and the introduction)? The block chain is the 2nd generation now. It revises it more. There are many common points with Wiki, too. The way that is updated by an open system for unspecified number of the general public in sequence. (Wiki can guarantee blockchain, and the blockchain can guarantee Wiki ; "Proof of Wiki".) In addition, as for the concept called "a volunteer", the concepts called "a block chain" will evolve in future, too. The world is bipolarized more. So I think the way to manage WIKI in stable way is ; "crypt-currency should be used in Wiki system".

Ultimately, you will need to convince editors that this system and incentive for editing is both feasible and improves how editing is currently done. I'm not confident that the current proposal does so. I JethroBT (WMF) (talk) 20:42, 6 February 2017 (UTC)Reply
