Thank you for this thoughtful and detailed report. Congrats on a successful competition. It's great to hear you surpassed your goals in terms of number of images submitted (amazing that almost 5,000 were by one person!), the quality of photos has increased, and your budgeting process has improved. Thank you for your reflections on the level of impact of future WLM competitions. As you noted, all chapters are facing this challenge and are discussing other strategies to encourage participation in photo events.

We have a few questions that we would appreciate your response to:

Regarding the remaining funds, we are not sure that photobooks for government agencies will achieve a high level of impact. We would suggest deducting these funds from the disbursement of the Annual Program Plan 2014 grant. Alex Wang (WMF) (talk) 15:05, 29 March 2014 (UTC)

Hi Alex thank you for the feedback. The numbering of the answers below correspond to the numbering of the questions above:

1. The 2013 edition has some 155 images used in 10 Wikipedias mostly in the English Wikipedia, on the other hand the 2012 edition already has 403 images used across 55 Wikimedia projects. :) -- Roel (talk) 00:30, 30 March 2014 (UTC)
2. Before and after the awarding ceremony we made sure we sat in the tables of the participants who were present to entertain them and at the same time obtain their feedback, one instance was via Facebook chat as the participant wasn't able to attend the awarding ceremony. They were actually the finalists in the top 50. Some who had joined the 2012 edition had an easy time uploading photos and certainly already know how to use the monument IDs in the list, some first time participants they were able to seek assistance of their friends who convinced them to join. They also checked the international winners of last year's edition and tried to use the same photography technique. They are interested to join another edition of Wiki Loves Monuments, but they also recognize that certain monuments get more photos while other sites don't get any at all. They said it will be interesting and challenging at the same time if it will be limited only to certain sites without photos or quality images yet. It is also interesting to note a non-winning finalist in the Top 50 requested a "certificate as a finalist" (which was mailed) because he cherishes the prestige of being among the finalist in Wikipedia's photo contest (see Facebook post). -- Roel (talk) 00:30, 30 March 2014 (UTC)
3. Advertising costs a lot, we thought our thrust in social media would compensate for it. We spent around ₱45,000 (US$1,046) for that print ad in a major daily. The other advertising stint we had was with an inflight magazine which gave us a 70% discount, unfortunately our contact there had resigned and they couldn't provide us the same discount anymore. -- Roel (talk) 00:30, 30 March 2014 (UTC)
4. I'd say the delay is mainly due to the enormous amount of work required in scanning the receipts and invoices. I still use my personal flatbed scanner (without automatic document feeder), that's why we made a provision in our Annual Program Plan to acquire an automatic document scanner which will make the scanning of receipts much faster, and also a provision for outsourcing of certain admin services, which would include that particular scanning and image enhancing task. -- Roel (talk) 00:29, 30 March 2014 (UTC)

The idea of limiting the competition to only un-photographed sites is an interesting one and it's great to see how proud Ric is of his certificate, especially considering the Church of Loon was destroyed in the recent earthquake (another reason why the Cultural Heritage Mapping Project is so important).
