Grants talk:PEG/WM US-NYC/Events Grant Reapportionment

Latest comment: 13 years ago by Lankiveil in topic Underspend?

I'm a little confused now. Is this a request to grant money that has been spent on food for a past event, instead of other money that was granted for that event? Please clarify. Ijon 23:10, 24 June 2011 (UTC)Reply

Hi Ijon, please ignore the request for just the moment. It's really still just a draft and we're working out the kinks (clarifying it amongst ourselves, even!). Thanks, Blurpeace 23:49, 24 June 2011 (UTC)Reply
Oh, okay! Let me know when it's ready. Ijon 00:46, 25 June 2011 (UTC)Reply
Okay, we've saved the final copy of the grant request, Ijon. Let us know what you think. Thanks, Blurpeace 21:53, 27 June 2011 (UTC)Reply

My first request is: Can you detail the Wikipedia Day budget? And there are any other even already planned? If yes, can you name it and detail them? Béria Lima msg 07:00, 29 June 2011 (UTC)Reply

We've included a summary of the essentials for Wikipedia Day at the associated project report page. The chapter regularly hosts small events to promote the projects in our local area (needless to say, one of the most populous in the United States) and these are taxing on the single grant that we were given to coordinate them some years ago. While we do not to my knowledge have anything specifically planned at this time, I can assure you there will most likely be something happening within the next month or two. Seems like the application progresses, but I'm pleased if the responsible members of WM-NYC let us know when the final version is by the end.--Kiril Simeonovski 17:34, 2 July 2011 (UTC)Reply

The application has indeed been "finished," but if there is any part that you wish for us to clarify, we would be more than happy to do so. Blurpeace 23:24, 2 July 2011 (UTC)Reply

Underspend?

edit

Just so we're clear, has WM-NYC met all of the goals of the two grants that you're asking for reapportionment? If you've met the goals without spending all the money, I think that reapportioning the money would be a very positive thing; certainly we need to provide an incentive to be as frugal as possible with grant monies while still meeting the stated goals. If you have not met those goals, why the underspend? Craig Franklin 03:46, 2 July 2011 (UTC).Reply

We have met the goals of both of the grants that we are requesting for reapportionment. They were underspent on one-time events and Wikimedia New York City is asking for their reallocation to reasonably anticipated ones in the future because we believe that they'll all be reaching the same intended end. Thanks, Blurpeace 23:14, 2 July 2011 (UTC)Reply
Okay, great, that's just what I wanted to hear! In that case my recommendation is that this goes full speed ahead. Craig Franklin 12:18, 18 July 2011 (UTC).Reply

Reappointment for what?

edit

Could anybody give a more detailed explanation on what kind of projects this money should be reappointed as in the application is only indicated to "smaller projects"? Best regards.--Kiril Simeonovski 18:42, 9 July 2011 (UTC)Reply

The grant is, described in the shortest and clearest manner, about giving the chapter more freedom to host events similar to the ones we are requesting reapportionment for. We do not yet have an events budget, per se, aside from the initial Kick Start grant and with chapter infrastructure costs going up, we'll have much less freedom to use that money. If you have any more questions, please feel free to ask. I've tried clarifying on the page; it was admittedly written pretty opaquely. Blurpeace 02:25, 11 July 2011 (UTC)Reply
Thanks. If I'm not mistaken this should free another funds in your chapter, and the application is mainly about it.--Kiril Simeonovski 03:13, 11 July 2011 (UTC)Reply
That's exactly right. Again, sorry about not making the request clearer. The Wikimedia New York City page has some other events that we'd also want to host in the future but cannot in our current financial state. Thanks, Blurpeace 03:16, 11 July 2011 (UTC)Reply

Given approval, what's the plan?

edit

The grant request refers to "future small events" that the chapter would be able to undertake if this grant is approved. If we approve this request today, what specific small events are you planning? If you don't have a specific plan, you don't need approval just now, as you're basically asking to just incorporate that Foundation money into WMNYC's general unmarked budget; if you do have specific plans, please include them in the request. Which is it? Ijon 17:32, 12 July 2011 (UTC)Reply

I've asked the same question, but seemingly this application is only to allow the reappointment and not to discuss about specific projects. The whole application is a little bit strange, since I've never seen such request before, so I think that this could be followed with additional grant request with information about any specific project that warrants the reappointed funds.--Kiril Simeonovski 21:57, 12 July 2011 (UTC)Reply
I've added several specific outreach events that we are pursuing for clarification; although all are likely to be fairly small in cost, the individual numbers for each cannot be certain ahead of time (we do not yet know which events we will be able to get free space for, etc).--Pharos 03:38, 14 July 2011 (UTC)Reply
My general opinion is that the chapters can better operate such minor funds within the Foundation and on the short-term they can easily produce much more benefits. So I therefore support the reappointment, but a specific budget is key here.--Kiril Simeonovski 19:38, 14 July 2011 (UTC)Reply
