Grants talk:PEG/WM ZA/WMZA Funding Jun15-Dec15/Report

Hi Discott. Thank you for completing this grant report and all your work on WLM and overseeing the administration of WMZA. We know it takes considerable work and appreciate your and others efforts to keep it organized! The report is approved.

  1. We understand the 2015 was the last Wiki Loves Monuments for awhile for South Africa. We appreciate your thinking creatively about how to increase quality and participation by photography professionals and enthusiasts. The challenge you encountered partnering with ORMS is a really interesting one -- it drew more participants, but mostly because they were interested in working on their photography skills and not contributing to the contest. That makes us wonder what is the right marketing for the event to get both skilled participants and folks who want to get involved in the Wikimedia projects (or at least win a great prize!). It would be great to know if you've thought more about this for future photography projects. However, it does sound like focusing on quality paid off with a relatively high usage rate!
  2. Congrats on organizing successful editathons for art+feminism and metal enthusiasts!
  3. We appreciate your efforts to sort out the accounting questions and working with an external auditor. Hopefully WMZA is able to implement the recommendations, with support from WMF as needed. Developing good practices will be key for the chapter, especially if you will host Wikimania in the future.
  4. There was a lot of deductions from the remaining funds for subsequent grants so we will need to confirm what the remaining funds are and next steps.

We look forward to learning what the chapter hopes to do in the coming year! Cheers, Alex Wang (WMF) (talk) 00:10, 5 January 2017 (UTC)Reply
