June: Carried out interviews and published one audio recipe.
July: Conducted another 2-hour Wikimedia technical training and writing meetup. Continued recipe collection and preparatory work.
August: Conducted interviews, held a heritage site visit and photography event, and reviewed the past three years of "Wiki Loves Monuments" activities.
September: Published one audio recipe, held the final project meeting, and wrote the end-of-project report.
(October): Planned to participate in "Wiki Loves Monuments" after the project concludes.
2) Could you provide more clarity on the purpose and significance of the two Wikibooks contributions and what you hope to achieve through this? Would it be to create new books, expand existing content, or translate important educational materials? And is there a reason why you are only targeting two books? Is it due to the complexity of the content, a focus on quality over quantity, or resource limitations? Providing this explanation will help reviewers understand the value of the Wikibooks contributions and how they fit into the broader project goals.
Regarding Wikibooks, we believe it is important to provide further clarification. Currently, the nan-language version of Wikibooks is still in the Wikimedia Incubator and has not yet been officially launched. Our project contributes to the wb/nan section within the Incubator. At present, there is no existing section for "si̍t-phó͘ (recipes)" under wb/nan, so contributing recipes via Wikibooks is a new and experimental approach for us. Taiwan is known for its rich temple culture, and its cuisine is equally memorable. We aim for the recipes to not only present cooking instructions but also share their cultural significance. For example, "ke-chiú (sesame oil chicken)" is a popular dish during colder months, but it is also traditionally served to postpartum women during their recovery period. We plan to use a hands-on approach, utilizing both text and audio, to document each recipe’s ingredients, tools, cooking methods, and cultural background, with the goal of producing a "spoken recipe" entry. However, due to the time and effort required for purchasing ingredients, preparation, cooking, recording, and editing, we will only be able to complete a limited number of spoken recipes within this project period. 🔗 Reference page: https://incubator.m.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wb/nan/Thâu-ia̍h
3) Could you provide more details of the community consultation and engagement that you have done? Please provide links to documentations where possible. Also, have you secured the commitment of your project team to implement the project? Could you provide links to documentation where possible? We are asking because in your previous project, core members of your implementing team had limited availability to commit to implementation.
Last year’s workload and Wikimedia-related projects were quite extensive. Due to changes in personal career plans among core team members, some impacts were felt in the project execution. After internal discussions, the team decided to scale down the scope of the project, discontinue multilingual community exchange activities, and instead focus on areas where each member has specialized expertise.
The current key contributors are: vickylin77amis: Responsible for planning heritage site visits, interviews, and handling administrative matters. akamycoco: In charge of researching and producing the "spoken recipe" content, as well as writing progress reports. Iyumu: Responsible for planning educational sessions and facilitating writing meetups. He had informed the team in February that she would be available to participate in gatherings and outreach events for about six months starting in March.
4) Having implemented several projects with the Wikimedia Foundation and contributed to different wikiprojects, could you provide a brief summary of the key areas of learning, innovation and contribution to the different projects, so we can understand how your approach has evolved over time?

In 2023, we applied for a Wikimedia Rapid Fund for the first time, designing a six-month project that focused primarily on enriching temple-related vocabulary entries in Wiktionary and Wikidata Lexemes. In addition, we organized courses, writing meetups, interviews, and general outreach for Wikimedia projects. In 2024, we submitted our first General Support Fund application, centering the project around "to-gí-giân multilingualism." Beyond contributions in Taiwanese, we sought to involve speakers of Indigenous languages to foster exchange and collaboration. We planned a year-long project, with the first half focusing on outreach booths, workshops, and interviews, and the second half dedicated to community interaction and exchange. To ensure steady progress, we held regular team meetings and maintained organizational operations.
We believe that promoting Wikimedia projects should not be limited to a single language, but should instead encourage cross-community collaboration. While "to-gí-giân multilingualism" is an innovative endeavor, it holds practical value, allowing different language communities to contribute their expertise, share operational experiences, and discuss challenges. That said, maintaining community engagement and sustaining an organization is long-term work, and it's difficult to meet all needs in a short time frame.
During the execution of this project, we encountered significant challenges in Romanized writing systems. Since Taiwan's mainstream education emphasizes Mandarin Chinese, writing in romanization—whether for Taiwanese or Indigenous languages—is not widespread and remains difficult for many contributors to master quickly. Therefore, we suggest that some participants focus on audio contributions as a more accessible entry point.
Currently, only 簡單先生 has submitted a 2025 project titled "Taiwanese Proverbs Project," which involves collecting proverbs, uploading audio files, and interviewing elders. We will support this initiative as volunteers and advisors, offering administrative guidance, technical Wikimedia support, and help with updating File information (including Romanization) on Commons. We believe that such efforts will help strengthen the integration between Wikimedia Commons and Wiktionary, thereby enhancing the visibility and usability of the project, and contributing to a more diverse Wikimedia ecosystem.
5) We understand that you have been in regular communication with Wikimedia Taiwan and they have also provided technical support to our projects from 2024 (or earlier). We hope you found the collaboration useful and will continue to reach out to them as an implementing partner. One suggestion we received on your project - Since Taiwanese proverbs are tagged to public domain licence, they meet the requirements of the Mozilla Foundation's Common Voice project. This project could consider using the Common Voice project's interface for recording, and then syncing to appropriate Wikimedia Projects.
Wikimedia Taiwan
Akamycoco (talk) 16:02, 27 March 2025 (UTC)
Akamycoco (talk) 04:19, 31 March 2025 (UTC)
