Additional comments from the Committee: The capacity to create and extend the AbuseFilter will help us to maintain Wikimedia projects with a low abuse edits in all wikis, keeping the volunteer time to create and improve Wikimedia contents to others. Some experienced extension contributors and reviewers are endorsing this project. It will also make the code easier to edit and to understand, so, it will increase the potential of other developers involvement. Abuse Filter is a very useful tool for wikimedians. Enhancing and providing further usefulness with valuable extra features will have a high and positive impact. Not big idea but the problem needs to be solved anyway. Project has a correct size and plans ahead for inconveniences. Considering all factors, little risk is present. Grantees might be interesting in adding some extra time for documenting correctly and providing useful information for new users of the tool. The grantees could complete the project in the planned time but I'm unsure about the capacity to merge the changes in Wikimedia cloud, because I don't see a endorsement from Wikimedia Tech. However, as a Open Source project, this isn't a great drawback to think about the capacity to complete the tasks in the planned time. An experienced contributor and maintainer of the extension, has some experienced reviewers involved. There is a clear plan for this project however it may need a few extra hours to work and solve some of the most serious bugs. 600hrs? That's a lot. Is there a possibility to do this in a lesser time? Global variables will make it scalable not only in en.wiki but other domains, too. Participants have shown so far that they are connected to the community and are aware of the potential widespread use of the tool. They enjoy much support and have adequate advisors for the task. This project will allow to keep the user experience more safe and suitable for all newbies and veteran users, because de AbuseFilter is our First Line to defend us from malicious edits and keep Wikipedia and the Wikimedia projects clean for all uses. I recommend funding for this proposal. This is a useful tool which needs to be updated, so yes I believe this deserves funding.
