editHi Jakub.klimek, and thanks very much for preparing this midpoint report on your activities the progress you and your team have made on loader component and improvements to the LinkedPipes ETL. Here are my comments and questions:
- I really appreciated seeing this planning document outlining different requirements for your tool based on community consultation and your team's experience with linked data. This preparation is valuable not only because it will allow your tool to be functional, but gathering feedback on community needs is a great way to ensure the tool will be useful to your audience.
- Thanks so much for providing an proof-of-concept example using extracted data from the article on Veteran trees, as well as the demo instance. While I understand there is more work needed for documentation, it's great to see how the tool operates in practice and the specific kinds of data it can extract.
- I hope your poster presentation and workshop at Wikimania 2019 went well! Thanks for sharing the materials What sort of feedback or questions did you receive during these sessions?
- @I JethroBT (WMF): All the feedback we got was positive, with multiple people showing interest in using the tool for loading data into Wikidata or their own Wikibases. They especially appreciated the idea of having the same data format (RDF and Wikidata RDF dump format) for querying and for data input. --Jakub.klimek (talk) 08:50, 2 September 2019 (UTC)
- One of your main goals is to upload five new data sources into Wikidata using LinkedPipes ETL. Have you considered or made decisions on what other possible data sources will be a focus for this project?
- @I JethroBT (WMF): The Czech Veteran trees is one of them and there was interest from the Czech community in Czech streets, which also have an authoritative source. The other three are not decided at the moment. --Jakub.klimek (talk) 08:50, 2 September 2019 (UTC)
- Concerning communicating tutorials and examples to the Wikidata community, what is your communication plan to invite community members to use this extraction and updating tool for Wikidata?
- @I JethroBT (WMF): Once a quick-start tutorial is ready (in September), we will use the channels identified in the project proposal, i.e. make a post on Wikidata GLAM Facebook page, wikidata:Wikidata:News and near the project end we will also aim for a Wikimedia blog post. --Jakub.klimek (talk) 08:50, 2 September 2019 (UTC)
- I wanted to clarify that we unfortunately do not have a renewal process for Project Grants to extend beyond a 12-month period for funding-- the text in the Next steps section is leftover from a prior grant program where the length of projects was shorter by default (6 months), and we allowed a renewal process for an additional six months. This text was not removed for this section, an error I will be rectifying this week. Please accept my apologies for this error.
- @I JethroBT (WMF): I see, OK. --Jakub.klimek (talk) 08:50, 2 September 2019 (UTC)
