Report accepted
editHi Ms Kabintie, thanks for submitting this Rapid Grant report for the Afrocine 2020 Edit-a-thon in Kenya. We are grateful for all your work and dedication on this project. I’m happy to accept this report with the following comments and questions:
- It’s great to learn that you have had guest speakers for the closing ceremony. Out of curiosity, what were the topics of their presentations?
- I’m sorry for the financial challenges you faced due to significant swings in the exchange rate.
- In the expense documents you have an expense line for “Photography for Afrocine Edit-a-thon”. Please note that compensation for photographer’s time is not eligible in terms of the Rapid Grant program. You can rent a photo camera but you are not allowed to pay someone to take photos. I’m making an exception this time but please consider this for your future projects.
- You mentioned that it was challenging to engage any experienced editors from your community. What will you do to increase their participation next time?
Thanks again to you, Teri Wanderi, and Sean Obell for your contributions to the Wikimedia Movement. Thanks also for sharing your knowledge with other Wikimedians and training new movement organizers. As the final report and expense documents are accepted, this grant is now complete. Best wishes, DSaroyan (WMF) (talk) 10:16, 27 April 2021 (UTC)
Dear Davit,
Thanks for your feedback,
- The Guest speakers spoke about the impact of our contributions in the #FreeKnowdge space in enhancing Information Literacy in our country and beyond. They also touched on meaningful youth engagement and personal branding in the digital space. I thought the speakers presence would go along way in boosting our participants motivation and validation considering their profile and it proved to be a good idea as seen in the pride the awardees had while receiving their certificates. Most of them took to social media to showcase their achievements. Their respective organisations also gave our event a social media boost.
- Apologies for the photography error, i have taken note.
- Our community has been fragmented with experienced editors only focussing on projects that interest them and one of the steps i've taken is try to bring people under one roof, to pull jointly as a team. As a result, the Planning Wikimedia User Group Kenya came to birth in December and we were also able to hold the movement prioritisation conversations. --Ms Kabintie (talk) 20:16, 27 April 2021 (UTC)
