Comments from DSaroyan (WMF)
editHello Uprising Man, thank you for submitting this complete Rapid Grant request. We are excited about the work you are planning to do as part of the Gurenɛ Wikimedia Community. I have reviewed the application and have some questions and comments:
- Firstly, I’d like to learn more about your Wikimedia Community. Is it a new community? Are you planning to form a User Group in the future? Does your group have a page on Meta?
- Please confirm that this grant is requested on behalf of Dagbani Wikimedians User Group and that you will receive the funds through this User Group.
- Please share the Risk Assessment tool document, so that it is accessible to everyone through the link.
- Could you please make the community notification in advance? We request that you let relevant Wikimedia communities know about this proposal and provide links to on-wiki pages where you have informed these communities about your proposed work. Please add these links under question #2.
- Do you work on the Gurenɛ language Wikimedia projects in the Wikimedia Incubator? Could you please provide a link to its main page on the Incubator?
- Are you going to involve native speakers of Gurenɛ in this project? Are you a native speaker of Gurenɛ?
- I’m glad that you have experienced Wikimedians and a language expert in the team.
Looking forward to hearing from you. Best regards, DSaroyan (WMF) (talk)
- Hi DSaroyan (WMF), Thank you for your comments and questions. Below are the answers to your questions:
- The Gurenɛ Wikimedia Community is a new community of volunteers working to support the Gurune Wikipedia incubator and it's sister Wikimedia projects. We are one of the 16 Mole-Dagbani groups of languages currently being supported by the Dagbani Wikimedians User Group. With a total of 209 members on its WhatsApp platform, we wish to apply for a user group when we are ready to thrive on our own. We are currently working on our meta page and will update you once it's completed.
- This grant is being requested on behalf of the Dagbani Wikimedians User Group.
- The Risk Assessment tool document is can now be viewed by anyone. Kindly check here.
- Alright. This has been shared with the dagbani-wikimedians@googlegroups.com and dagbani@lists.wikimedia.org
- Please find the incubator here. Fortunately, a Gurenɛ incubator was created about 9 years ago and we are improving on it. Currently, we are training members on the basics of Wikipedia editing and the Wikimedia movement at large. This grant will help us translate 100% of the most commonly used messages on media Wiki as it is one of the requirements of having a full language Wikipedia.
- I am a native speaker. I hail from Bongo, a suburb of Bolgatanga where Gurenɛ is our native language. In relation to involving native speakers, about 99.9 members on the platform are native speakers; some are studying the language at the university while others are practicing.
Thank you. We really appreciate the support to grow the community and archive the language before its extinction. Looking forward to hearing from you. Best regards, Uprising Man (talk) 16:08, 23 August 2021 (UTC)
