Grants talk:Project/Rapid/Lori Brown/Third Annual WikiD meetup/Report
Comments from I JethroBT (WMF)
editHi Loriannbrown, and thanks for your report on this WikiD meetup focused on women in architecture and design! I've had a chance to review your report. Here are some comments and questions:
- Congrats on a successful event! I realize you didn't meet your goal in terms of new articles created, but it's great to hear that participants were able to improve a larger number of articles than you had planned. An important aspect of addressing content disparities on Wikipedia projects is not just creating new content, but also making sure that articles are written well.
- One idea I've seen work in the past for events with smaller groups is that everyone focus on creating one new article, and to really make it high quality and comprehensive. This can be sometimes be done by splitting up tasks for the article amongst participants. Two small groups in Chicago took on en:Chicago Fire of 1874 (The "Little Chicago Fire") as a group effort in this way, splitting up writing assignments by section. If you think this could work well for you, feel free to try it out with a new article you want to get started.
- One question: You noted in your report that 3 new articles were created and 25 articles were improved. If it's available, could you provide a link summarizing what articles were worked on during the event on the report? I'd be interested in checking some of them out! :)
Once I hear back from you on that last question, I'll be to approve the report. Thanks so much for your hard work! Take care, I JethroBT (WMF) (talk) 21:56, 16 May 2017 (UTC)
Happy to provide it. Here is the metrics link (please let me know if this is enough): https://outreachdashboard.wmflabs.org/courses/Center_for_Architecture/wikiD_Women_Wikipedia_Design_NYC_2017
