Grants talk:Project/Rapid/Omorodion1/Stimulating Wikimedia Activities at Igbinedion University Okada

Comments from DSaroyan (WMF)

Hi Omorodion1, thank you for submitting your grant application. After reviewing your grant proposal, we have some questions to learn more about the project and planned activities.

  • If the project focus is to train university staff, then why do you need to rent the space from that particular university? Have you considered talking to the university to get the space for free or with a discount?
  • How far is the Igbinedion University Okada from your location?
  • Have you discussed this project with other community members? How do you make decisions around which projects you want to run?
  • How would you make sure that some of the staff members are engaged after the events, even when you do not run any specific activities?

Looking forward to hearing from you soon. Thanks for your time, DSaroyan (WMF) (talk) 12:40, 3 May 2022 (UTC)Reply

My Response

edit

Thank you so much DSaroyan (WMF) for taking time to review my grant request. My response to the above questions are given below:

  • If the project focus is to train university staff, then why do you need to rent the space from that particular university? Have you considered talking to the university to get the space for free or with a discount?

The focus of the project is to train interested staff and students. The processes involved in securing a suitable venue for free in many universities here can be cumbersome and time consuming, hence the need to make special event space arrangement during the project planning stage. However, I am currently making plans to see if I could get free or low cost (suitable) space for the event. In that case, I will report and refund all unspent fund at the end of the project.

* How far is the Igbinedion University Okada from your location?

The University is in a different town from the town I reside. The safest route to the University from my location will require me to first get to the state capital before heading to Okada where the school is located.

* Have you discussed this project with other community members? How do you make decisions around which projects you want to run?

  • Yes, I have discussed this project with other community members. Aside announcing the project on the discussion page of the Wikimedia Nigerian User Group, I have equally discussed it with members of the Edo Wikimedia Hub via the Hub`s Whatsapp group. Also, I aim to expand the Wikimedia community in Edo State by recruiting volunteers from different part of the state. As a result, I factor in the geographical spread of the Wikimedia projects knowledge in deciding the project to run in the state.

* How would you make sure that some of the staff members are engaged after the events, even when you do not run any specific activities?

The recruited volunteers will be admitted to the Whatsapp group of Edo Wikimedia Hub were information about different Wikimedia related campaign and projects are shared. This will help keep them engaged even when I do not run any activity. In other words, they will be encouraged to participate in other Wikimedia related projects organized locally or internationally. Those interested in the local Language Wikipedia will also be linked to the respective communities.

APPEAL FOR EXTENSION IN THE PROJECT TIMELINE

edit

Dear DSaroyan (WMF), I will like to appeal for a 30 day extension in the project timeline to enable me successfully complete the task. I have had some challenge recently which made it impossible for me to complete the task as earlier scheduled. I would be grateful if the extension appeal is favourably considered so the new end date for the project is shifted to 30th August, 2022. Thank you. Omorodion1 (talk) 03:49, 20 July 2022 (UTC)Reply
