Hello OtuNwachinemere, thanks for submitting this Rapid Fund request. I have a few questions and recommendations for you after reviewing the grant application:

  • Since your plan is to take only 90 photos, my recommendation is to have 1, maximum 2 participants in these photowalks. Please make the corresponding changes to your application and budget.
  • Why do you want to rent a DJI Mavic Air drone? Do you have experience with flying similar drones? Since these drones are usually very fragile, how will you make sure that it’s not damaged?
  • Could you please provide a list of objects and monuments that you plan to photograph during your events? How will you find out what objects to photograph?
  • Could you provide examples of articles without photos that you plan to illustrate?
  • Could you please confirm that you will make sure that categories, descriptions, structured data, and other details of the images will be completed properly?
  • How will you make sure that the key sites you are planning to photograph are not subject to copyright?

Looking forward to hearing from you. Best regards, DSaroyan (WMF) (talk) 12:41, 1 October 2021 (UTC)Reply

  • Thanks for the recommendation, The 3rd participant is a trainer and an experienced drone flight pilot. Asides having a new member on the movement, I would love for him to be a part of this project for reasons stated in the second response.
  • While on my last photowalk, I discovered that a Drone could produce amazing aerial photos of Architecture and Monuments with improved details. Take a look at This> and This. I hope to formally replicate same on this project. Do not worry, I have an experienced person flying, There won't be any damage. Thanks for your concern.
  • Done
  • Done
  • I confirm that I will make sure that categories, descriptions, structured data, and other details of the images will be completed properly. I was going to include something related in my report for the last photowalk. Structured data on Commons seems incompatible with mobile uploads. I guess i will have to stick with Computer uploads.
  • All sites are open to photographs. Permissions will be sought and received where necessary.

Kudos DSaroyan (WMF) for the work you keep doing on here.

Hello OtuNwachinemere, thanks for your response. I have some additional questions in order to make the final recommendations:

  • You mentioned that you have 1 camera and your plan is to rent 2 additional DSLR cameras. If the third participant will take drone photos, what's the need for having one additional camera?
  • How many photos do you plan to take with the drone? If you have experienced person who flies drones, don't they have a drone to use during the project?
  • I look through the provided list and could only find 1 article without any images. As I requested above, please provide the list of all Wikipedia articles that you plan to illustrate.
  • If your plan is to take photos of ~20 objects, what's the need for running 3 photowalks?
  • Why are the camera rental costs so expensive (100 USD per day)?
  • Why do you request food expenses for 4 days? Also, how many times do you plan to offer food?

Looking forward to hearing from you. Best regards, DSaroyan (WMF) (talk) 10:32, 5 October 2021 (UTC)Reply

Response 2

Hello DSaroyan (WMF), thanks for your response. Here are the responses to your additional questions:

  • This is a typical Photo-walk where 3 participants will be taking regular photos, hence 3 DSLR Cameras. However, one of the participants has the skill to fly a drone and i thought we could use the opportunity to get amazing Aerial photos without directly paying for the service. If this is out of place, then i think its best i stick to your earlier suggestion and ditch the drone idea as well as cut down to just 2 participants. Do let me know so i can make the necessary changes.
  • Unfortunately, we do not have a drone at the moment.
  • Here is a tentative list; COE Minna, NSHA, Minna, Niger state. Also i am hopeful that some of the photos will provoke new articles e.g School of nursing and midwifery, School of health technology.
  • My last photo-walk experienced a lot of interruptions from bad weather and it resulted in some cost implications. I figured it would be best to split all the items across 3 days in order to accommodate weather related interruptions seeing as Minna is currently in the rain season. Also, 20 items is only a working list, there will likely be more.
  • 100 USD (per device) for the entire duration of the project, even if we experience interruptions. There are cheaper options but the quality of the photos may be affected.
  • Thank you for bringing my notice to this, there will be 3 walks and 1 training. We will only need food during the photo-walks. I will make the adjustments. Thanks

Kudos for the work you're doing!--OtuNwachinemere (talk) 10:25, 6 October 2021 (UTC)Reply
