Grants talk:Project/Rapid/Public Domain Day 2022 Celebration in Nigeria

Comments from DSaroyan (WMF)

Hello Bilijin, thanks for submitting a new grant request on Public Domain Day 2022 Celebration in Nigeria. I think this is an interesting project and I have some questions and comments after reviewing it:

  • I'd like to learn more about the proposed videos. I understand that they will be about the public domain, but could you please provide more details about the topics covered? What will these videos cover? Have you already worked on the concept or script? Why do you plan to create two videos?
  • Will these videos be useful on other Wikimedia projects or will they be only promotional?
  • Who will receive the compensation for video creation? Are you planning to outsource the video creation service or the team will create these videos? Could you please explicitly mention all team members who will be compensated in terms of this project?
  • Please respond to question #2 and #4. These are required questions.
  • Revise the Impact section, including other targets too (e.g. number of database items, number of contest participants, number of reach).
  • What will 'Casting' and 'Location' expenses cover?
  • Which online meeting platform will you use with the cost of 50 USD per month?
  • I think that 500 USD for 'Communication, airtime and internet costs for team members' is high. Please reduce it or explain the need.
  • Please also reduce the Contingency costs to 100 USD.

These are my initial thoughts and requests. I may have more questions after receiving your responses. Looking forward to hearing from you. Best regards, DSaroyan (WMF) (talk) 14:47, 24 November 2021 (UTC)Reply

Hi DSaroyan (WMF), I have reviewed yout questions and comments and provided answers below. I have also made some changes to the grant proposal

1. The videos will cover topics such as what the public domain is, importance of public domain, how to identify work in the public domain and public domain in the Nigerian context. We haven't created the script yet and we plan to create two videos because one will be for promotional purposes

2. The videos will be useful in other Wikimedia projects

3. Alaafiabami, Isaac and I will work on the script and receive compensation for script writing. All other aspects of the video creation will be outsourced.

4. Casting was originally intended to cover the cost of getting a celebrity or influencer (basically, a popular face that people seeing the video could relate to). However, we've decided that that isn't needed. Location will cover the cost of the studio where the video will be recorded

5.The online meeting platform we plan to use is Zoom. The price for that has been revised to $20

6. The communication, internet and data cost for team members is high because we will be reviewing every entry during the contest as well as creating WikiData items for all valid entries at the end of the contest. We are also in different states across the country and will need to communicate constantly.

7. The contigency funds have been reduced

Request for Extension

edit

Hello, I'd like to request an extension of the grant end date from 28th February 2022 to 30th April 2022. There have been a few delays with the contest. Bilijin (talk) 13:41, 16 March 2022 (UTC)Reply

Hello Bilijin, thanks for posting your request. I have reviewed and formally approved it. The new grant end date is 30 April 2022, and the final report is due on 30 May 2022. Best regards, DSaroyan (WMF) (talk) 08:27, 21 March 2022 (UTC)Reply

Request for Extension and Fund Repurposing

edit

I'd like to request another extension of the grant end date for the above named grant to 31st May 2022. We had some issues promoting the videos on some social media platforms. Those issues have been resolved but they caused a delay when we started promoting the videos.

Additionally, there are leftover grant funds of about 500 dollars. I'd like to repurpose those funds for promoting the videos on social media due to the fact that we have realized that our initIal video promotion budget of $500 will not be sufficient to achieve our goal of reaching 500,000 people.

Hello Bilijin, thanks for posting your request. I have reviewed and formally approved both.
  • The new grant end date is 31 May 2022, and the final report is due on 31 June 2022.
  • The remaining funds of 500 USD can be reallocated to the social media promotion budget.
