Grants talk:Project/Rapid/Rachel Wexelbaum/Wikipedia As Social Activism/Report
Comments from I JethroBT (WMF)
editHi RachelWex, thanks for your report on your edit-a-thon focused on improving content related to social activism. Here are my comments / questions about your report:
- The scheduling matter regarding holidays is actually pretty common. I've run some events here in Chicago in my capacity as a volunteer and have accidentally scheduled things around major holidays (mine was around Memorial Day), so don't sweat it. This is one of those things where you do it once and then you make a mental note to check a calendar next time. :)
- Regarding the general vs. specific approach to edit-a-thon topics, I think either of these approaches is fine so long as the way the event is described and promoted makes clear what the expectations are. That said, if you do have a more specific event in the future, and some folks would rather work on other content, I don't necessarily think this is really a problem. Generally, if you make sure there is good reference material available at the event for people to write about the topic area, most people will stick to the topic.
- Nice article work! Topics like Islamophobia in the United States, Privilege (social inequality) are tough to jump into, but they are central concepts in social activism. Good to see some biographical work as well, such as on Pickett and LaDuke.
This report is nominally approved. As for the $83.99 left, we'll need to know what plans you have for the remaining funds. Would you like to send this back to the WMF or use it for a future event? Thanks, I JethroBT (WMF) (talk) 20:36, 6 July 2017 (UTC)
- . Hi [User:I JethroBT (WMF)|I JethroBT (WMF)]] (talk), I am going to complete my new Wikipedia Rapid Grant today...according to Morgan Jue I will have to start from scratch with funding, so I will not be applying funds from this grant to the future one. Thank you for your support! RachelWex (talk) 17:07, 19 July 2017 (UTC)
Note about remaining funds
editThis is to confirm for future reference that there are no funds remaining from this project, as WMF was not able to send the originally approved funds prior to this event, and instead sent only the reimbursable amount of expenses incurred once receipts were received during the reporting period. Thanks, Morgan Jue (WMF) (talk) 15:59, 27 July 2017 (UTC)
