Hello KuboF Hromoslav, thank you for submitting this Rapid Grant request. It is great to learn that you are planning to run a fundraising campaign to ensure the financial stability of Esperanto and Free Knowledge UG. We have reviewed your request and have some questions and comments:

  • In the Impact section, you mentioned that you would like to raise 1,000 EUR funds. Could you please clarify how much 1,000 EUR will provide in supporting your annual budget?
  • Also in the Impact section, you mentioned 100,000 as the number of total participants. Could you please provide more details on who is the potential participant here? We would recommend that in this case you define the estimated number of total donors or proportion of contacts that you expect will donate during your campaign.
  • We request that you update the length of the grant, reflecting the actual outcomes of this fundraising campaign. Please extend the grant end date until the end of next year, so that you could include the fundraising outcomes in your final report.
  • Due to WMF holidays, we also kindly ask you to push back the grant start date by at least one week, to allow some time for grant review and processing.

Looking forward to hearing from you. All the best, DSaroyan (WMF) (talk) 12:55, 21 December 2020 (UTC)Reply

Hi DSaroyan (WMF) and the grant team!
Impact of 1 000 euros to Annual budget 2021.
As you can see in our Annual budget 2021 (for now only in Esperanto, we will translate it into English later), the budget it pretty tight. It comes to 0 only after exclusion of "reserves" (which are calculated for the possibility of receiving another funds that conservatively excepted.). Most of the activities are free or paid by external sponsors.
Additional 1 000 euros would be enough to fund similar fundraising campaign for 2022 from the funds received in this run; and make our projects better. Examples would be: additional prizes for our competitions and campaigns (Wikipedia Pages Wanting Photos, America month, Asian month...), paid advertising for individual projects, bigger reimbursements for participation on external events where our representatives actively participate (talk, training, PhotoWalk or similar), possible improvements in our website and another technical infrastructure. From 3 000 euros raised up, it is possible to think about a quarter-time employee / contractor. It is expected that this fundraising will have no impact on our projects carried before May 2021, because only in that time we are supposed to start receiving the funds.
Also, please consider, that funds raised in 2021 will be available until end of 2022, so (if in sufficient quantity) they will impact the Annual budget 2022 (which is scheduled to be approved in end of 2021).
I have an experience with such fundraising campaign, but as this is the first time doing it with this organisation (WUG ELiSo) and during a large scale pandemy, there is uncertainty about the result. Knowing the result is a valuable result on its own, because it will help us to improve the next year.
Total participants.
The stated 100 000 participants is calculated from the campaign I did for WUG Wikimedians of Slovakia for Facebook page - it is a total number of ad impressions. To my best knowledge, it is the only one number we can really measure. We can only with problems measure number of visitors of our landing page, because it requires the potential donors to accept cookies (only part of them will do). We absolutely will not have total number of donors, as it is an information guarded by the intermediate state organisation. We will have postal addresses and email addresses of the donors who will opt-in (already in the measures of success).
End date.
Changed.
Start date.
I am going to contact Davit privately to clarify the situation.
Thanks! --KuboF Hromoslav (talk) 15:30, 21 December 2020 (UTC)Reply

Reallocation request

edit

I am going to provide more detailed information in the final report. From the main part (the Facebook ads - 500 eur) have remained 276.73 eur.

I ask for reallocation of the remaining funds:

  • reallocating 160 euro for a different project (WPWP - Wikipedia Pages Wanting Photos 2021 in Esperanto)
  • using the remaining 116,73 eur for continuation of Facebook page likes campaign for the original project

Alternatively, if you would do not accept the above mentioned option, I ask for:

  • use all the remaining funds (276.73 eur + possible some remaining funds from domain registering) to continue the original project's Facebook page likes campaign
    • as this specific project is focused on this year campaign, I preferred to not use the funds after the main part have finished without your explicit permission

Hello KuboF Hromoslav, thanks for posting your reallocation request. I'd like to approve the first option and reallocate funds:
  • 160 EUR for the WPWP campaign in Esperanto
  • 116,73 EUR for Facebook promotion
Because the amount is relatively heigh, you are required to submit a short additional report after making the proposed expenses. Your additional report should include some information about the activities and expenses. All the best, DSaroyan (WMF) (talk) 06:08, 29 June 2021 (UTC)Reply
Thanks, Davit and WMF!
For clarity, where I should publish the additional report? --KuboF Hromoslav (talk) 08:02, 29 June 2021 (UTC)Reply
@KuboF Hromoslav: you're welcome! If you make these expenses before publishing the final report, you can include the additional details into the final report. Otherwise, you can publish the additional report to the report discussion page. Best, DSaroyan (WMF) (talk) 08:37, 29 June 2021 (UTC)Reply
