Report accepted

Hello KCVelaga, thanks for submitting this report and for running the VideoWiki workshop in India. I'm glad to learn that you achieved the project goals and I'm excited about the general outcomes. I am accepting the final report and expense documents with the following comments:

  • I agree that this should be a huge learning experience for you. Thanks for sharing your learnings with us and Wikimedia community in a learning pattern.
  • I also appreciate that you have engaged participants from different communities of India. Did these participants share the learnings in their communities? Did any of them continue creating more videos after the event?
  • Are you planning to run other VideoWiki related initiatives in the future?
  • Have you come up with any idea to use the remaining funds of ₹30,166.29?

Thanks again for your contributions to the Wikimedia Movement. This grant is now complete. Wishing you all the best, DSaroyan (WMF) (talk) 13:06, 23 December 2020 (UTC)Reply

@DSaroyan (WMF): Hi Davit, thanks for reviewing and accepting the report. Here are my replies:
  • Unfortunately, the follow-up after this workshop took a hit due to the pandemic and the subsequent lock-downs. The idea was to do substantial follow-up with at least two communities, including an idea to introduce VideoWiki as part of EduWiki at SEABA school by Punjabi Wikimedians - however, the latter itself has been stalled due to the pandemic. To worsen the situation, VideoWiki core funding had diminished for a while, again due to the pandemic, which forced the team to focus on sustaining rather than expansion. Owing to all these, we weren't able to do much follow-up with the participants after the event. But I had a chance to meet one of the participant from Punjabi community recently, who had been handling the above mentioned EduWiki program and he is still interested to do some regional activities once school start to function normally.
  • In principle, yes, we would like to do outreach for VideoWiki in India, with more regional focus. But I fear that we don't have clarity on the specifics yet, and would only able to chalk out something solid after the pandemic recedes.
  • I still have the funds with me, as of now. There might be a potential rapid grant proposal in January 2021, from the user group I am associated with, so may be these funds can be deducted from that payment, if funded.

Hello KCVelaga, thanks for your response. In order to deduct the underspend from a new grant, the potential Rapid Grant should have the same grantees as this one — it should be an individual type grant with you being the grant recipient. We cannot reallocate the remaining funds to another bank account. Of course, your user group can apply for a new grant, but I wanted to let you know that reallocation may not be possible. Thank you, DSaroyan (WMF) (talk) 08:29, 29 December 2020 (UTC)Reply
