Reduction budget under 1000$
editHi,
We had read that this year the WLM budget has been reduced to $ 1000, for that we have reduced our proposal to under 1000$. We know in advance that this reduction for Algeria, the impact of the offline activities will be huge. We cancelled workshops and the upload sessions. We reduced the value of the winners prizes and the jurys gifts.
For the photo exibition we will print only 10 photos. For others gifts because we're cancelled all events we dont need to print anythings or stickers or another materials or services didicated during events.
We apreciate that the fundation support our efforts in Algeria, We still happy with Wikimedia fundation help. and all their efforts to promote the open knowledge, despite if it's just one Free picture, Video, Article. --Mohammed Bachounda (talk) 22:14, 18 August 2019 (UTC)
Comments from WMF
editHello, Mohammed Bachounda; thank you for adjusting the budget in your proposal to 1000 USD. We received a lot more submissions than we expected and we do have a limited budget; we would rather support many than have a competition among WLM organizers to see who gets funded and who doesn't.
I am prioritizing the review of reports from past Algeria grants in order to be able to move forward with this WLM review. However, in the interest of time, I wanted to offer a couple of alternatives that could help you do more of the activities you planned:
1. Instead of having a social media advertisement budget, you can do outreach contacting photo clubs directly to advertise the contest, and allocate that money to something else instead. 2. You can also cut the main prizes a little; the prize levels you are offering are comparable to prizes given in countries with higher costs of living. My intuition is you could cut the prizes a little without bringing down the incentive for professional photographer participation. 3. With those two things, you could have funds for an upload session, for example, or for a photowalk.
Also, can you please provide more details about the Communications item in your budget? Regards, MMontes (WMF) (talk) 03:38, 22 August 2019 (UTC)
Hi @MMontes (WMF): We really appreciate your advice and we understand all your directions, we've added more details to the resource table for clarity in reading.
we cut in half the budget allocated to social media ads and the main prizes (note that in Algeria, the prices are really the same, for the unique reason that they are not made in Algeria). In this case, we will choose products that the winners will accept and give a value to the contest.we can not distribute awards that give us a negative return.
we are still trying to develop relations with the photograph community in Algeria. after 5 years of Wiki Loves Competition in Algeria; this community know the contest and participates more and more, not in the quantity but in quality, at competitions, we use part of the budget to fund offline relationships (Communications).
Bests wishes; --Mohammed Bachounda (talk) 14:36, 25 August 2019 (UTC)
