Grants talk:Project/Rapid/Waqaho/Wikipedia Campus in Hokkaido University 2016
Feedback on your proposal
editDear Waqaho,
We love that you are seeking to train new Wikimedians in Sapporo at Hokkaido University. You have a good plan for your editathon and we are very interested in funding you. However, we would first like to ask you to revise your proposal to include a follow-up plan. Since it is not sustainable to continue to transport experienced Wikimedians to Sapporo from outside your area, it is important to think through how you can sustain engagement so that the new editors you recruit are more likely to continue editing after your event.
Typically, one-off events are not at effective at achieving ongoing engagement among participants and we prefer to fund a series so participants can come to multiple events. So, you might consider having a train-the-trainer event while you have two experienced volunteers in your midst, so that you can host additional events without them later. You might also plan to have the two experienced volunteers help you with online follow-up for a period following your editathon. For example, perhaps they can be available via email and social networking channels to answer questions. You might also ask them to help you host some online editathons in the wake of your offline event, so you can invite participants to continue editing together.
Please set goals around continued engagement as part of your revisions to your proposal. We'd like these goals to include tracking participant retention over time.
Let me know if you have any questions, or would like additional help in revising your proposal.
Kind regards,

Dear Marti (WMF),
Thank you for your kind and useful feedback about my proposal. I asked advice from colleagues and revised my proposal. The revised follow-up plan contains more sustainable and concrete approaches. Would you like to confirm the new edition?
Best regards,

Request approved
editDear Waqaho,
We're glad you will take advantage of the in-person time with Ks aka 98 to learn how to coordinate future editathons on your own. This makes your plan much more sustainable, since you can continue to support new editors in your region. It's a good idea to offer online support and follow-up online editathons, too. Thank you for making these changes to your project plan.
We are approving this request for $1,950. Please review our reporting requirements so you are prepared to submit your report within 30 days of the end of the project (if you need more time, you should change your project end date).
Our grants administrator will be in touch shortly about your grant.
Thank you for your support of the Wikimedia movement!
Warm regards,
Marti
