Grants talk:Project/Rapid/Wikilover90/Wikimedian in Residence - Municipal Library, Patiala
Hello Wikilover90 thank you for leading this project. This request is well organized and I am appreciate how you will approach developing this partnership between the government library and the Wikimedia community. I only had one question for you:
- Can you say more about what monthly expenses will be covered through this grant and how you've estimated them?
Best regards, WJifar (WMF) (talk) 20:07, 21 September 2018 (UTC)
Hello @WJifar (WMF): Thank you so much for your remarks. I appreciate them. This project is going to be a pilot.
Monthly expenses stated is going to be my stipend during the project. I will be working 40 hours per week and the amount is around 50 percent of average amount for a project manager in India. This amount will cover my personal expenses on monthly basis.
Hope that answers the question. Thank You! --Wikilover90 (talk) 18:24, 22 September 2018 (UTC)

Hello @WJifar (WMF):, @AWang (WMF):, @I JethroBT (WMF):! I would like to request for processing the grant sooner as this project needs to start soon. The government library in question is centuries old and hasn't been kept in good condition, due to which it might be declared insecure and will be closed consequently. I hope that we can do something sooner, as the issue at hand is urgent. Thank You! Wikilover90 (talk) 16:50, 3 October 2018 (UTC)
Additional Questions
editHello Wikilover90, apologies for the delay in response. I have been away at a conference for the last week.Thank you for providing a response to my questions. Given your response on the stipend I had an additional question on your project.
- You mention in your different tasks that you will be spending 10% of your time uploading files into commons, another 20% scanning. Given that you are getting a stipend for this project this would essentially mean you are getting paid for editing. Our guidelines state that we do not pay individuals to digitize materials. Therefore, would you be able to organize volunteers to do the digitization and scanning parts of your project?
Please let me know and I will proceed quickly on next steps. Best regards, WJifar (WMF) (talk) 21:28, 21 October 2018 (UTC)
Hello @WJifar (WMF):, Thank you for your reply. In this project, I would be training some new volunteers to do digitization and would be teaching them scanning and the required digitization tasks along the project. So, therefore, digitization can done by volunteers for this project.--Wikilover90 (talk) 21:55, 21 October 2018 (UTC)
Hello @WJifar (WMF):,an update;
I communicated with partner institution and have successfully been able to make agreement with their staff to take care of digitization. They have agreed to get training for scanning and my task will be to ensure that they maintain the quality of the digitization. I will be liaison between the officials and community to select right books and manuscripts for the project, get the community to utilize the scanned content provided by institute to integrate in Wikisource and Wikipedia by organizing different Wikisource events, be a liaison between the lawyer and professors to select copyright free books, be a contact person between the government officials to get permission for scanning and facilitating the staff members with scanning process.--Wikilover90 (talk) 20:08, 22 October 2018 (UTC)
Approval
editHello Wikilover90, thank you for the update. This is excellent news. I am approving your grant request. Best regards, WJifar (WMF) (talk) 21:02, 22 October 2018 (UTC)
Hello @WJifar (WMF):, Thank You so much! I wanted to discuss the updated dates of the project. Please let me know if the new date of project : 28 October, 2018 - 20 January, 2018 can be updated. The project timeframe is of two months but I would need to attend a Wikimedia Conference and two Wikimedia workshops during this timeframe, so I am adding extension in advance keeping in mind the days that will be spent attending/organizing the events in different geographical locations. --Wikilover90 (talk) 17:21, 24 October 2018 (UTC)
