Grants talk:Project/Rapid/Wikimedia User Group Nigeria/Monthly meetup
Hi Olaniyan_Olushola. Thank you for this grant request. It's great that the community would like to continue regular meetups! Before we move forward, it would be great to have more details about the proposal.
- Have you looked into using a free venue? For example at a university, library, or through a like-minded partner?
Thank you Alex, as a community "free venue" was the first option that came to our mind when planning this grant. However, one of the reasons meet-up were not held on regular basis in our community was because we are unable to secure a free place for our meeting. Since, we cant guarantee "free venue" hence we didn't include it in our plan. Though, we are still considering this option but not in our immediate plan. However we are in partnership with Goethe Institut (GI) and some universities in the country. But these partnership arrangements are tied to specifics projects.E,g GI is for Wiki Loves Women and Universities are for Wiki Fan Clubs.
- Can you provide more information about your previous meet-ups? For example, what did you focus on (training in specific skills, socializing), number of participants and the number of those that came to multiple events?
- Trainining/Edit-a-Thons
- Planning and discussion on our activities as a group
- Socializing as way of recruiting new editors
- Sharing of knowledge
- How will you advertise or do outreach about the events?
- Official Facebook page
- WUGN Official mailing

Changes to the completion dates of our grant
editWe have run three monthly events out of the six proposed event since the beginning of this grant.
- Community Meetup for the month of April 2017
- Community Meetup for the month of May 2017
- Community Meetup for the month of June 2017
Due to circumstances beyond our power we could not match the date of completion on our grant, we therefore write to request change to the completion date of our grant thus: The new proposed completion date for the grant will be 31st September, 2017
We are requesting for change because of the following reasons:
- Clash of date with major events in the country.
- Non availability of enough volunteers for a meetup in a giving month.
- In ability of the group to secure event place in a giving month. Olaniyan Olushola (talk) 18:42, 22 July 2017 (UTC)
- Hi Olaniyan Olushola. Thank you for the update. To confirm, the new end date will be 30 September 2017 and your grant report will be due 30 October 2017. Cheers, Alex Wang (WMF) (talk) 18:29, 24 July 2017 (UTC)
Request for Project date extension
editDear Grant Team,
As earlier approved, we are sorry to request for further extension on the date of project completion. This is due to the fact that majority of our executives are so busy at the moment. Though, our community members are available but our leaders are not available during the period in consideration. We therefore, request for additional three months in order to organize the remaining three events. This will be October, November and December. Then, the report will be ready at the end of January 2018.Olaniyan Olushola (talk) 10:25, 20 October 2017 (UTC)
- Hi Olaniyan Olushola. Thank you for the update. In future project planning, it will be good to think about the project management team and their capacities for organizing events. I definitely understanding that there are often unplanned for demands from life/work, but the more responsibilities are divided up and the more you support new folks to develop as leaders, the more options you'll having for organizers! Hope the remaining events are a success. The new end date is December 31st and the final report is due January 30th.
