Grants talk:Project/Rapid/Wikipedia, Tourism and Policy Making
Comments from WMF
editHello Berkay Ozcan. We are happy to see the research about the impact of Wikipedia on local tourism and the influence policymakers have on this impact. We appreciate your efforts to work on this meaningful research project. We have a few questions that we would like clarification on:
Thank you very much for these questions. Below are my answers:
- Would you explain more about the work of the research assistant and how the compensation rate has been determined?
The research assistant will be conducting the following tasks: - Search for the contact details of the policymakers who will be contacted for the experiment (8 days). - Build a database with the Wikipedia pages of every Spanish village/town/city included in the database (1 and a half days) - Help copy-editing the policy brief in Spanish. The RA will have to have strong writing skills in Spanish (Half day).
The research assistant will be hired with the grant via the LSE. The total cost of the LSE daily wage of a research assistant established by the University is 148.5 GBP. The estimated cost of 10 days of work would therefore be 1485 GBP.
- Can you link the research study in the application that you wish to follow up on with the proposed research?
The journal citation reference is Hinnosaar, T., Kummer, M. and Slivko, O. (Forthcoming). "Wikipedia Matters", Journal of Economic & Management Strategy. The link to the paper published in the journal is: https://papers.ssrn.com/sol3/papers.cfm?abstract_id=3046400 The link to the last WP (open access) is: http://marit.hinnosaar.net/wikipediamatters.pdf
- Would the research publication be in open access? This is one of the most important factors for research projects we fund from our grant programs.
Yes, the final paper will be published as an open-access article in a scientific journal. However, we will publish a pre-print version in the SocArxiv and Open Access Working Paper Series of the Department. First, we will publish a Working Paper version of the research project in the LSE Department of Social Policy Working Paper Series (Open Access). Once it is accepted to a journal, LSE has specific funds to cover open access publishing and special agreements with major publishers such as Springer, Elsevier. You can see on my LSE website that the majority of my scientific publications have been published Open Access articles. I am a strong believer of both Wikipedia and open and free access to knowledge.
Looking forward to hearing from you. RSharma (WMF) (talk) 09:34, 21 December 2020 (UTC)
Thank you very much, I look forward to hearing from you, too. Berkay
