Comments and Questions from I JethroBT (WMF)
editHi GodwinPaya, and thanks for your proposal to run a series of editathons focused on creative artists in Nigeria. It's great to see this group of volunteers helping each other out with these projects, and I am glad to see they are interested in helping out with this project as well. Here my comments and questions on the project:
- Where will these edit-a-thons be taking place?
- I have some suggestions about the budget for the T-shirts/caps in the grant. In our guidelines related to merchandise, we can't provide funding for more expensive merchandise, like T-shirts and caps, to be distributed to all event participants. The main reason for this is because with events for larger groups, organizers are generally not able to provide this kind of merchandise for all participants. However, lower cost items like stickers and pins are acceptable. Alternatively, a small number of T-shirts can be distributed to recognize exceptional volunteer contributions, like those helping you organize these events. In this case, it would be appropriate to budget a smaller number of T-shirts (4) for the volunteers who you've named who are helping to manage the event. Can this budget item be changed?
- Can you provide two or three example articles that you plan to develop for English Wikipedia?
- Can you describe how you arrived at the USD $200 per event estimate for your food budget? Is there a vendor or caterer where the costs are provided that you can point me to?
Let me know if I can clarify any of my questions. Take care, I JethroBT (WMF) (talk) 20:03, 19 May 2018 (UTC)
Replying I JethroBT (WMF)
edit- Hello I JethroBT (WMF). I want to take this opportunity to thank you for your response. Please find below my answers to the questions.
- Where will these edit-a-thons be taking place?
- Abuja, Nigeria.
- I have some suggestions about the budget for the T-shirts/caps in the grant. - Absolutely. The new budget will then be: T-Shirts/Caps for 4 Volunteers = $20 x 4 = $80
- Can you provide two or three example articles that you plan to develop for English Wikipedia?
- Jon Ogah
- Johnny Drille
- Chioma Jesus (Amaka Okwuoha)
- Can you describe how you arrived at the USD $200 per event estimate for your food budget? Is there a vendor or caterer where the costs are provided that you can point me to?
- We estimated for Food and drink = $200 x 4 Events = $800. I can however get an invoice from the vendor if need be.
- Thank you once more. Godwin Paya (talk) 18:56, 22 May 2018 (UTC)
- @GodwinPaya: Thanks for your responses-- I have a few more questions:
- Where in Abuja would these editathons occur? I was curious whether you might be using a school, a library, or other places to gather for these events.
- Could you update the budget for the t-shirts/caps on the proposal page?
- Concerning the food budget, my main concern is that it seems too high. In the proposal you wrote that you expect around 10-15 people to attend each event, and that $200 USD is needed to feed each person at a given event. In Naira, this would mean that between the cost of food would be about NGN 4,800 - NGN 7,220 (or about USD 13.30 - USD 20.00) per person for the event. Is this what a typical meal usually costs in Abuja? It seems somewhat high based on the cost of living there. That said, it's possible I have misunderstood something; if so, could you provide more specific details around how this $200 is being spent and provide a vendor invoice? (This can be sent to rapidgrants@wikimedia.org) Otherwise, I would recommend lowering the food budget to about $100 per event ($100 x 4 events = $400) on the proposal page.
- Thanks, I JethroBT (WMF) (talk) 20:28, 22 May 2018 (UTC)
