Grants talk:Project/Swymm
Feedback from Harej
editHello Swymm team, thank you for submitting this proposal. I appreciate that this proposal is still marked as a draft and that you might have plans for the project that aren't put down into writing yet. So I apologize if I'm asking things that will be eventually explained in the proposal.
I am not completely sure what the outcome of this project is supposed to be. Can you clarify what you mean by "event data"? Does this refer to structured data around historical events? What is the nature of this data, where does it come from, and how is it going to be organized?
The proposal includes a lot of features. I would recommend figuring out how to prioritize these features. If this project is funded you may find that you don't get to accomplish everything you set out to do, and that's okay. It's worth thinking about what your core goals are.
I also don't see a clear theory of how this tool might work. At this stage I don't expect a fully fleshed out specification but it would be nice to know some basic details about how Swymm will be different from other Wikidata editing interfaces. Potentially you could build something that would be perfectly suited for history-related data, and that would be awesome. But as it is, what you are proposing is quite vague.
Also, have you begun reaching out to the experts you would like to have using Swymm? Their input may prove valuable in making sure that what you design is something they can (and want to) use.
Not eligibile, round 2 2018
editHi 0x73DB07, this is Chris Schilling, the program officer for Project Grants. The major focus of this proposal, Swymm, is not eligible for a Project Grant, as it falls outside the scope of this program. It is unclear what code review or integration would be needed for this project or where the software would be hosted, as the proposal lacks sufficient information to make this clear. It also not clear whether this project can be completed within a 12-month period.
If you have questions about this decision, please feel free to reach out to me at cschilling@wikimedia.org.
