Unspent grant funds - WLA 2019
The WLA 2019 edition is possible thanks to the continuous Wikipedia Grants support, the whole team is really grateful for this.
However, the implementation and success of the WLA 2019 edition are also largely dependent on the voluntary work of Ynternet.org team, including the WLA project members. In every WLA application, we have considerably downsized the amount budgeted both for administration and project management for this to become possible. This is beacause we think that the project itself should continue, albeit the fact that we spend more time than budgeted.
Just to give you an example: the implementation of payments required to different WLA participants, demand a full three days work and follow up through out the year. The amount allocated this year to all admin activities was 500 USD.
Therefore, we would find it fair to use the rest of the grant to (Unspent grant funds: 380 USD) to co-finance a follow up WLA working meeting (travel nd meeting expenses) between the different stakeholders and team members. This would allow us to better evaluate the results of the project, map and work on alternative WLA funding source for 2020 - 2021. — The preceding unsigned comment was added by Thanough (talk) 10:43, 6 December 2019 (UTC)
- @Thanough: Hi Athanasios, and thanks for this reallocation request toward an additional working meeting to review results and consider additional funding sources for future WLA events. This reallocation request is approved. While the final report has been submitted already, would it be possible for you to provide us an update on the outcomes of this meeting in terms of additional evaluation of project results and what other funding sources you are considering for WLA looking ahead? - @I JethroBT (WMF): Hi Chris, thank you so much for the responding positively to our demand. Following up with the WLA team has ended up in two concrete actions: firstly, we approached an international organisation called Global Water Partnership - GWP based in Stockholm and proposed them to partner with us on a future (2021) WLA edition on Water (as theme). They are not used to such kind of initiatives but have not rejected the opportunity. Secondly, we have been working on transforming our WLA activities to training for adults events / courses mainly on: bottom up collaboration, open licencing and gardening communities of practice. We intend to submit such a project proposal to Swiss based traning organisation (Movetia) early 2020. We will keep you posted on both areas !
