Grants talk:TPS/Mompati Dikunwane/BwIndependence day 2017
Questions about your request
editDear Mompati Dikunwane,
Thank you for submitting this request. In order to review your request, I need you to provide more information. Can you please answer the following questions?
- Please write a paragraph describing BwIndependence day 2017. Who hosts this event? How many people participate in the event? What kind of audience does it attract and how would you connect their interests to Wikimedia projects? How many people would you be presenting to?
- Please provide more detail about your presentation.
- Please provide clearer goals in regard to what you expect to achieve as a result of your participation.
You can look at this TPS application as an example of the kind of content I am requesting. In particular, I would like to see your goals and impact sections filled out with a similar level of clarity.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
Warm regards,
--Marti (WMF) (talk) 16:52, 20 September 2017 (UTC)
Hi --Marti (WMF), thank you so much for your questions. I have filled in as per your request. I will email you the invitation letter as proof of my participation. Mompati Dikunwane (talk) 12:16, 21 September 2017 (UTC)
Hi, Marti (WMF), letter already sent to you Best Mompati Dikunwane (talk) 12:16, 30 September 2017 (UTC)
- Dear Mompati Dikunwane,
- We have received your email confirming participation and I have also reviewed your revisions to your proposal. I'm writing with some additional comments and questions:
- Although I appreciate your revisions to the proposal, you have not yet addressed all of my questions. It's helpful to know that the event is organised by Ministry of Youth sports and culture. It's also helpful to have more detail about your presentation--your topic (how the historical information or data from monuments and sites can be backed up using Wikipedia tools and how media can be released under commons to allow for usage by everyone who might want to use it) is great. And 35 participants for your presentation is a great goal. That said, I would still like you to further describe BwIndependence day 2017. Can you describe the event (for example, its purpose)? Is 35 people the approximate number of people who participate in the event, or just those who would attend your presentation? What kind of audience does it attract and how would you connect their interests to Wikimedia projects?
- We will only fund your participation in this event, as the presenter. Unfortunately, we cannot fund Setsile to photograph the event because there is insufficient additional impact.
- We need you to reduce your budget and offer more explanation of the costs you have listed. Please revise your budget to:
- reflect costs for one person only
- exclude miscellaneous expenses (we cannot fund unidentified expenses)
- reduce the amount of your request. Based on our research, the costs you listed are extremely high for the region. We need you to bring them down considerably before we can fund it. You can reference this website for information about max lodging and per diem costs. We can reimburse a maximum of 75%, per our travel policy. We cannot reimburse costs that exceed our maximums.
- Please let me know if you have any other questions.
- Warm regards,
Hi --Marti (WMF) , the event is a gathering of youth and ICT entrepreneur's with the main aim of promoting awareness about the cultural diversity of cultural heritage of humanity, their vulnerability and the efforts required for their protection and Conservation-restoration of cultural heritage, therefore I will as a Wikipedian introduce Wikimedia and her sister projects that will help in creating back up in a form of article writing using tools offered by Wikimedia, uploading images and releasing them under wikimedia commons to allow for usage by everyone. I will present about GLAM-Wiki initiative ("galleries, libraries, archives, and museums" with Wikipedia;) to help cultural institutions share their resources with the world through collaborative projects with Wikipedia Library and experienced editors can 're use uploaded content or images.
Best

Request funded
editMompati Dikunwane, thank you for this additional information. This event sounds like a great fit for your presentation and we'd like to support your participation in the amont of $826.50. We are not able to provide funding for the full amount of your request because it exceeds the allowable amount defined by our travel policy. The standard meals & incidental expenses rate is 75% of the State Dept and GSA rates, which comes out at $59.25 per day for all meals and $129 per night for accommodation. Additionally, we cannot give you advance disbursement. We can only reimburse you for your costs, up to the allowable amounts and only for those costs for which you can submit receipts.
Here is the revised budget, per our travel policy:
- $300 for flight
- $129 x 2 for accommodation (maximum allowable amount)
- cab far to/from airport: $75 x 2 = $150
- $59.25 x 2 for meals/drinks (maximum allowable amount)
Before you decide to accept funding support, please make sure to read all of the steps required of TPS participants and confirm that you are prepared to meet our requirements, as described in the "How the program works" page.
Note that you will need to submit a post-event report, due 14 days after the event. The report requires you to link to an outcome. Fulfilling the outcome requirement tends to be the most challenging task for TPS recipients. Please consider in advance how you will meet the requirement. Some applicants mistakenly assume they can submit the materials they presented at the event (such as a slide deck, a research paper or a poster) to meet the outcome requirement. We do like you to link to your presentation materials, but they do not meet the outcome requirement. An outcome must be something that is created during or after the event because of your participation. The purpose is to extend the value of your participation beyond the conference. For example, your outcome could be something new that was co-created by you and your fellow participants at the event, like one or more articles on Wikipedia improving content about a topic that conference participants know about. Your outcome could also be a blog post you write after the event to share your conference learnings with others who did not attend the conference. You may also write a learning pattern to teach others something you've learned at the event. If you are not sure how to meet the outcome requirement, we recommend that you reach out to us with questions.
Our Grants Administrator will be in touch with you about your grant. Thank you for work on behalf of the Wikimedia Foundation.
