Some additions after going live

edit

I wasn't actually finished with the report when it was put live. I added some text just now, hope this is alright. --Pgallert (talk) 06:46, 5 June 2015 (UTC)Reply

Thank you, Pgallert. I apologize if I moved your report to 'under review' too soon. I misunderstood your email notification to mean that it was ready for review. oops! -- Jtud (WMF) (talk) 16:53, 5 June 2015 (UTC)Reply
No worries, I think I'm done now anyway. --Pgallert (talk) 18:45, 5 June 2015 (UTC)Reply

Report feedback

edit

Dear Pgallert,

Thank you for submitting this report. The committee will accept this report, contingent upon completion of two tasks:

Requests:

  • Please update the grant total on your PEG report to reflect the deduction of underspent funds that we are transferring to your TPS grant.
  • It sounds like e-Learning Africa 2015 was a disappointing experience for you in many respects. Given your insights into the shortcomings/failures you perceived in in the participants’ projects and initiatives, it also sounds like a valuable context in which to initiate a conversation about free knowledge and the Wikimedia movement. Having shared the annoyances you faced, it would be very useful if you could add to your report your reflections on next steps that might be worth experimenting with in this context for any future Wikimedians who may attend. We would appreciate it if you could build on your critical insights by sharing any constructive thoughts you have toward this end.

Additional Feedback:

  • We are glad to hear there were three Wikimedians in attendance and that you were able to connect with Tighe Flanagan!
  • Thank you for adding your learning pattern on Training for Educators.
  • Thank you, also, for uploading the slides you presented at e-Learning Africa. We appreciate you sharing your presentation with other users.

Thanks for your contribution! As soon as you complete the requested tasks, the Grants Administrator will be in touch with you to close your TPS grant.

Thanks for reviewing this, @Mjohnson (WMF): Not sure I understand your first request: Should I deduct what was approved here, from the money that hasn't been used for the PEG? To reflect the total of what I'm still sitting on? Regarding the second request, I'll put a few suggestions under "anything else". Whether that'll be feasible or not is up to the WMF, then ;) Cheers, Pgallert (talk) 10:36, 21 June 2015 (UTC)Reply

Dear Pgallert,

Thank you for your follow-up comments in your report. Your insights are incredibly useful and provide us with helpful criteria to refer to when working with future grantees who participate in e-Learning Africa or similar venues. WMF does have a limited lobbying budget, and will support lobbying activities that are sufficiently mission-aligned and strategic. Funding a booth seems like a straightforward and worthy investment to pursue in future rounds. I think you are right that having a compelling speaker for the cause of free knowledge could be really impactful and as a new Program Officer, your comment inspires me to inquire into our precedent around providing this kind of support. Thank you again for fleshing out these strategies in your report.

In regard to the first request, our Grants Administrator will follow up with a separate comment clarifying what we need.

Thank you!

Report accepted and total grant amount

edit

Hello @Pgallert: Thank you again for this report. It is accepted! As for the total expenses, does 26,074.63 ZAR seem reasonable to you? Exchange rates were calculated via oanda.com based on the dates of payment. If this is agreeable with you, kindly reply with your confirmation here and update your PEG report page to reflect the total amount for e-Learning Africa to be deducted from the underspend on your PEGrant. -- Best regards, Jtud (WMF) (talk) 16:26, 24 June 2015 (UTC)Reply

Hi @Jtud (WMF): I accept your calculation. Please have a look at my updates to Grants:PEG/Pgallert/Indigenous knowledge for Wikipedia workshop/Report... Is this what you had in mind? --Pgallert (talk) 10:31, 6 August 2015 (UTC)Reply
