Hi@Muriel Staub (WMCH): and @Mjohnson (WMF):,I have been working on the Wikipedia Education Program and also the GLAM Project in Hong Kong since 2013. In 2015, I served as the Program Committee for GLAM-Wiki 2015, a conference about projects by GLAMs in collaboration with Wikimedia and/or that have another open knowledge component. At the same time, I worked on the very first Wikipedia Education Program in Hong Kong in March. The pilot program began with an introductory talk to students in the School of Humanities at Hang Seng Management College. Approximately 25 students attended. After the talk, students knew more about what Wikipedia is and how the education program would work. 16 students expressed interest in joining the program. The pilot began in March 2015. The students are required to edit articles related to literature and linguistics on English Wikipedia. Their target is to work on the articles during the summer months after the class has ended and to complete their article by August 2015. At the end of the Program, we collected 17 entries from the students, mainly related to linguistics. All the entries are informative and we are so happy to have the students participating in the program.

I am invited to give a speech in g0v summit 2016 about the importance of establishing an arts database in Asia, and how we can achieve it with Wikipedia/Wikimedia Commons/Wikidata. In fact, Wikidata would be an ideal platform for us to build up the database, along with the resources on Wikipedia and also Wikimedia Commons. in my presentation, I will talk about how people can share their knowledge on Wikipedia/Wikimedia Commons/Wikidata, in order to establish the database about arts in Asia. Hi @Venuslui: and @Mjohnson (WMF):! That sounds like a great conversation to have Venus! We have some very strong precedents in the Wikimedia community of working with structured data around paintings, for example, wikidata:Wikidata:WikiProject Sum of All Paintings. However, the technical connection between good structured metadata (right now only storable in Wikidata) and the media proper (which can be connected on Commons, but can't describe the level of nuance about the media and provenance information that GLAM organizations are looking for). There is some talk about working in that direction -- but based on what I know from colleagues at WMDE and WMF -- its at least a year before good database functionality is even a possibility for Commons -- if everything moves smoothly -- and who knows how long after that before the other capacity concerns are addressed.

Out of curiosity, I have two questions:

• Are you primarily interested in just proposing the idea and getting more folks involved in the technical side of GLAM-Wiki in your region/context? Do you already have technical collaborators on something like this? (The European community has had a fair bit of success with uploads to commons and strong use of Wikidata and batch uploads to Commons, but they have a large community of developers).
• Have you had previous conversations with partners in the region? If so, it would be great just to keep that work on the radar.

Hi, @Astinson (WMF): Actually I have been working on this project from last year, and it is still the beginning of the whole project. Through the presentation in g0v summit 2016, I want to introduce the idea to the audience, and also get more people involved in the project, not only the technical side of GLAM-Wiki, but also the cultural side, which means that I hope to encourage the people who possess the resources to share on Wikipedia/Wikimedia Commons/Wikidata, as I believe that it is an ideal platform to establish the database. Indeed the European community is a great example to look at and hopefully we can do something like that in Asia.

I have talked to different organizations in Hong Kong to see if there are any opportunities to cooperate with them. Recently I talked to Asia Art Achieve (AAA), but still there are so many details we have to negotiate. I will keep you updated. Thank you. Venuslui (talk) 08:03, 10 April 2016 (UTC)

And, also, make sure that you talk with the main GLAM-Wiki channels: you should join the Cultural Partners list -- it has most of the more knowledgable GLAM-Wiki folks in the community on it -- they may be able to help you make the argument.
