Explain your plan

edit

My name is Leonardi, I'm editor of the Wikipedia (in the incubator) in Wayuunaiki, the largest aboriginal language spoken in Venezuela and Colombia, I have been actively working on translating content from the Spanish Wikipedia to my language in the Incubator since 2011 after being contacted by Maor X. I have no purchasing power to buy a laptop and because of that, my edits have been mostly sporadic, from cybercafes or the library of my college (University of Zulia). I would like to continue editing Wikipedia, in part to teach other people of my ethnicity to edit and expand the influence of the free knowledge in our community, in my own tongue.

Affected projects

edit
  • Spanish Wikipedia
  • Incubator Wikipedia in Wayuunaiki
  • Wikimedia Commons

Work you're proud of

edit
  • Being the first member of the wayuú community actively working in Wikipedia.
  • Being part of Wikimedia Venezuela as a member since 2013, and being the only member in Zulia State (the most populous of our country).
  • Since 2016, I have been working in small workshops in my college with the help of the School of Anthropology.

  3. --Barrioflores (talk) 00:06, 13 April 2017 (UTC) I strongly endorse this request. I first met Leonardi during a gathering of digital activists in Bogotá, Colombia where he shared his experiences as editor of Wikipedia in Wayuuanaiki. From my understanding, he has been unable to participate as fully as editor because of a lack of equipment. This donation would allow him greater freedom to work both offline and online to contribute to Wikipedia. This is a video interview that students from the National University of Colombia recorded.[reply]

  5. --Sahaquiel9102 (talk) 00:23, 13 April 2017 (UTC) Leonardi participated in a gathering in Colombia (you can read about that in the Wikimedia Blog) sharing his experience editing Wikipedia with other indigenous speakers. He is very interested in help in the develop of the Wikipedia in Wayuunaiki. Wikimedians of Colombia strongly endorse this petition, we know about the work of Leonardi and the problems related to Internet access and lack of equipment. This donation would help communities in both sides of the border, the Wikimedia Venezuela Chapter and the Wikimedians of Colombia User Group are very interested in make the work of Leonardi easier and better.[reply]

  7. Maor X (talk) 06:29, 13 April 2017 (UTC) I have known Leo since 2011, when I contacted him via Twitter after he replied to a tweet I sent searching for Wayuunaiki speakers interested in working to create a Wikipedia in that language. Despite his personal difficulties, he has found time and resources to go online and contribute, little by little -even paying hours at an internet café just to go and edit articles on the Wayuunaiki Wikipedia or upload photos with an old camera I had and that I gave it to him when I purchased a better one. If he could have a computer, he would be able to contribute WAY more to create and develop more knowledge in his language, and also teach others in the wayuu community across the border between Venezuela and Colombia. When we brought him to Caracas for the General Assembly of Wikimedia Venezuela in 2012, he could not contain his excitement to meet in person other people who shared his passion for freedom of knowledge. I fully endorse my tawala's request.[reply]

  11. I support Leonardy's application, I know his work as Wikipedia editor on wayuunaiki and I know that one of his major limitations to continue contributing in this version of Wikipedia is access to a computer.--Zapoteco diiste (talk) 15:33, 27 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
