Explain your plan

edit

Tell us about how you contribute currently, and how you would contribute if WMF were to gift a used laptop to you. I currently contribute on the English Wikipedia, Commons, wikidata. I have been having issues connecting my laptop to the internet. For this reason, I have had to borrow laptops from friends and colleagues and also use my mobile phone. I had to reset the phone some months ago so as to make it easy to use but afetr a while, i started having issues of screen freezing and poor internet connection. Also, i learnt how to query wikidata using SPARQL after a training by Asaf Bartov but I'm unable to do so as a result of the internet issues with the laptop. Even while at the training, i had to borrow laptops from colleagues. There are times when hours of work on my mobile phone are lost and I have to work thoroughly to make sure i retrieved them. A PC in good working condition will impact my input on Wikimedia projects and make my community work more productive and effective. A new development is that I now coordinate a Fan Club at the Ekiti State University and many of the students do not have a PC and as such, one will greatly increase the impact of our work. Thank You.

Endorsements

  1.   Endorsed - SuperSwift is an active member of Wikimedia hub,Ibadan who has grown to be a regular on-wiki editor. I can comfirm that his computer is in a terrible state as I have even needed to give him my device to use in some of our meetings. I believe if he is given any laptop in a good working condition it will serve as a means for better contributions to the encyclopedia at large.HandsomeBoy (talk) 08:11, 6 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  1.   Endorsed - SuperSwift cares about the Wikimedia movement in Nigeria and he has been combing around to see more grounds to find people who would care about Wikimedia projects in times of like this when editors need to be retained, local Wikipedias need working, Wikidata needs skilled hands and so on- this is the drive of the Wiki Fan Club at Ibadan where he leads. It's hard deciding which editor from the list of volunteers should get a donation. But with the drive and impact SS has made towards WM projects and outreaches, I am sure certain that this will be a snowballing for the movement locally and globally.Danidamiobi (talk) 12:40, 11 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  1.   Endorsed - I can attest to the fact that SuperSwift has a terrible PC that hardly connects to the internet and a new one will do him well.Barolove (talk) 08:43, 7 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  2.   Endorsed - SuperSwift I attended a training with SS in May, 2018 and he was of great help. He assisted those of us who found it difficult to catch up and since then, he has been a major source of motivation. Based on his great need for a PC donation, I'm endorsing him because he's a major pillar of strength and support in his local community and a PC should not deter volunteers like him who are passionate about wikimedia projects.
