Inari Saami Wikimedians User Group
The Inari Saami Wikimedians User Group is a potential Wikimedia user group that is already dedicated to promoting the Wikimedia projects in Inari Saami and to increasing the visibility of Inari Saami in digital linguistic landscapes.
Objectives
edit- Maintain and grow the Inari Saami Wikipedia via events and activities organized by the user group
- Recruit new contributors by fostering an environment on the Inari Saami Wikipedia where speakers feel comfortable writing their language at their own skill level and to equip them with the skills necessary to continue contributing to the Wikimedia projects
- Promote awareness of the Inari Saami language, and through it the other Saami languages, and also advocate for their speakers to be able to use these languages across the Wikimedia projects
- Increase the visibility of Inari Saami in digital linguistic landscapes
- Continue to develop the use of Inari Saami in structured data on the Wikimedia projects and advocate for it to start being used on non-Wikimedia projects that already use Northern Saami structured data (for example, General Finnish Ontology (Q27303896) and Yle topic tagging)
- Provide support and assistance for other Saami languages and their communities in their Wikimedia journey should they request it

History
editThe Inari Saami Wikimedians User Group builds upon the work started by Anarâškielâ servi (Q621246) (The Inari Saami Language Association), which is an organization founded on December 4, 1986, in Inari, Finland to promote and revitalize the then severely endangered Inari Saami language. The association and its members were instrumental in expanding the Inari Saami Wikipedia when it was still in the incubator stage, which resulted in the creation of the world's second Saami-language Wikipedia, the Inari Saami Wikipedia, on October 19, 2020. They continue to support the Inari Saami Wikipedia through various activities.
