Outcome
editThe event Launching of IG Wiki Hub Enugu which held at National Energy Research Center University of Nigeria, Nsukka was the first of its kind in Enugu state. The launching had 39 participants in attendance including the immediate past Vice Chancellor of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka Prof. Benjamin Chukwuma Ozumba who was there to give his good will message. The Head of Department, Igbo Linguistics, University of Nigeria, Nsukka and the Director Institute of Igbo studies, University of Nigeria, Nsukka were represented. The participants were put through some of the fundamentals of Wikimedia Foundation, Movement strategy, Wikipedia Policies and Guidelines and the Five Pillars. It was an exciting moment for the participants as they were made to understand the importance of contributing to Wikimedia projects particularly with respect to promoting Igbo Language and Culture.
Two persons (a male and a female) with special needs also participated. Their effective participation is an indication that there is ability in disability. With great zeal and commitments, they were so eager to learn and to contribute.
Being that majority of the participants were new editors, they are very enthusiastic about contributing to Wikimedia projects. I feel that organizing follow up events will help a lot in sustaining their interest.
