Learning patterns/Use advanced site notice to promote events
What problem does this solve?
editAn event needs a promotion. This is the easiest, cheapest, and most effective way to promote your events.
What is the solution?
editThe "advanced site notice" ASN is one of the most effective way to attract visitors to your event as it can be seen by everyone that visit your Wikipedia and does not require much effort to be made and maintained. You can put a link in the ASN to a wiki-page that contains information about the event and how to register. It is advisable to make the link in a form of static image, not text or animated image (e.g. .gif), as it is statistically proven to attract more visitors to the event page.
However, it is important to not put more than two messages or event notices in the ASN. For each notices you put on the ASN, the effectiveness of each notice will be significantly decreased to 1/n where n is the number of notice. For example, if you put two (2) notices, the effectiveness of the notice will be about 1/2 (50%). If you add one more event notice to it, the effectiveness will decrease to about 1/3 (or 33%) per notice.
Things to consider
edit- Only put a well-designed banner that match with your Wikipedia's front page design
- Discuss it with the community first as the notices will be seen in all pages of Wikipedia
When to use
editEvery time you want to hold an event.
Examples
