The m:licensing update proposal to dual license all Wikimedia Foundation wikis under both the GNU Free Documentation License (GFDL) and the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike License (CC-BY-SA) is moving into its final phase. This proposal has been put forward by the Foundation and made possible by recent changes in the GFDL. Adopting the new licensing scheme is contingent on community approval. In several days a site notice for all editors will announce the start of three weeks of community voting on this proposal. In the mean time we would invite you to visit the update proposal and its associated FAQ if you want to learn more. We would also appreciate your help finishing the translation effort for the core documents associated with this process.

Message delivery
editThe message should be delivered by posting it into an appropriate on-wiki forum, such as a village pump, and/or by sending it to the community's email list. To maximize effectiveness, people are encouraged to start with communities and languages they are personally familiar with so that we can target appropriate venues and provide necessary translations.
Delivery will occur on a rolling basis over a few days. As a baseline objective we want to communicate with the largest communities but anyone is welcome to reach out to the smaller groups as well.
- To allow time for review and any last minute changes, please do not post messages before:
- 28 March 2009, 22:00:00 (UTC)
- The time is now:
- 25 December 2024, 08:16:22 (UTC)

To ensure coverage this list has been seeded with the top 20 communities (by number of edits) plus the largest project in each additional major category, but feel free to add any additional projects you intend to message.
