Wikipedia Awareness Program

Wikipedia Awareness Program, abbreviated as WAP, is a program organized by the Maithili Wikimedians User Group to make interested college students aware of and train them about Wikipedia and its sister projects. We as a team wish to continue this event as this helps us to increase the outreach activities in Nepal and keep us motivated toward the Wikimedia Movement.

The main aim of the event is to reach out to the new student and keep them aware of the usage of Wikipedia and filter out the interested students to Wikipedia Awareness Program Workshop. This in turn helps us to build our user group infrastructure and support the Wikimedia Movement in Nepal.

Happyland Higher Secondary College, Rajbiraj

The first Wikipedia Awareness Program in 2024 was conducted on 2 January, 2024, in Happyland Higher Secondary School, Rajbiraj. During the event, we are focused on making students aware of the usage of Wikipedia in their academics and how they will benefit from it. We run this Awareness Program in Class 12 (Science), and we took the feedback from students by delivering them a feedback sheet as well as a registration form to the interested students to join our free Wikipedia Workshop. The event was led by Pankaj Deo and volunteer members of Maithili Wikimedians.

International Mother Language Day Event in 2024

The International Mother Language Day Event was an interaction event organized by the Maithili Wikimedians User Group in Rajbiraj, Nepal. The local Wikimedians, and community members gathered together to discuss about the importance of Maithili Wikipedia in development of Maithili language. We have arranged a session named Technical Terminology of Maithili language by Satish Kumar Dutta, a Maithili scholar.

This Day is observed every year on 21 February to promote linguistic and cultural diversity and multilingualism.

International Women's Day Event in 2024

The International Women's Day Event was organized on 8th March, 2024 by Maithili Wikimedians in Rajbiraj, Nepal. We have celebrated this event by rewarding the strong and dedicated women's of Rajbiraj in different field of the society. We have invited Acting Mayor of Rajbiraj, Isharat Pravin to this event as a chief guest. This is first of it's kind event organized by the Maithili Wikimedians to aware, interact and reward Women and college students. We have collaborated with Kshitiz Educational Foundation to provide their college students, which were interested to know much more about the importance of Wikipedia and scope of native language in the world of openness.

Wikipedia Awareness Program

Universal College, Rajbiraj

On August 30, 2024, Universal College, Rajbiraj, hosted the second Wikipedia Awareness Program of the year. The basics of the event are to make the college students aware of the usage of Wikipedia. The program took place after a long gap in Rajbiraj. After the interaction with the students, we were focused on collecting the feedback from them. The event was led by Pankaj Deo and volunteer members of Maithili Wikimedians.
