Talk:Requests for comment/Wikisource adminstration problems

Can someone uninvolved take charge and address my concerns here. Attention and focus are a finite resources and I don't believe we can both get the local discussions concluded and respond to this RfC at the same time. Without there being conclusions to the local discussions there is not a great deal to intelligently Comment on in such a Request. Thus a negative feedback loop sapping energy away from anything conclusive.--BirgitteSB 02:23, 4 January 2011 (UTC)

I understand you, but can't you just ignore this RfC? :-) --Nemo 11:15, 4 January 2011 (UTC)

Ads

I will tell you that these banners that take up two inches of screen are annoying as all get out. They are ads, self referential ones. I turned on the widget to remove them, but that does not work completely. Please reconsider. I just saw one that said meet Wikipedia's sister projects. Save me from this. Hit the "X" or "hide" button in the corner and they'll go away. Cbrown1023 talk 20:20, 13 January 2011 (UTC)

RfC

I would like to inform that a request for comments regarding those holding rights on closed wikis is opened. I wanted to close it however given the low number of comments it perhaps or was not properly advertised or people have little interest in the issue. Notwithstanding I'm informing you all in the case you want to comment there. Best regards, -- Dferg ☎ talk 18:43, 21 January 2011 (UTC)

Global preferences

I know this has been discussed before, somewhere is some wiki, but I can't find it, except for this discussion in 2008. I would like to know if the following proposal is currently being worked on:

With the checking of a "Make settings global" button on the Preferences page of a user's wiki1, all the preferences changes (user profile, appearance, date and time, editing, etc) would reflect on all wikis (aka "global account"), similar to how changing your email address updates on all wikis automatically.

1The wiki could be:

  • The home wiki
  • Wikimedia Commons, since it is Wikimedia's content repository (and settings repository?). See also: Bug 4547
  • Meta, (for whatever the reason)

Has this been discussed before? And was there a bug submitted on this? Rehman 03:45, 23 January 2011 (UTC)

There's bugzilla:14950 with quite a lot of related bugs. You should look for some more detailed discussion on wikitech-l to see if someone is actually working/thinking about it. --Nemo 08:09, 28 January 2011 (UTC)
Thank you, Nemo. Rehman 00:41, 29 January 2011 (UTC)

Importing files

Is this possible? Please see Help_talk:Import#Importing_files. Thanks. Rehman 00:47, 29 January 2011 (UTC)

Integrate stats.grok.se into "Page" menu

Resolved. Feature already available on article History page. Mesoderm 18:06, 30 January 2011 (UTC)

It would be very useful to have the "Page" menu (in Vector skin) have an option "Traffic stats" that looks at the current month's traffic for that article on stats.grok.se.

I asked about this over at the Village Pump on the English Wikipedia, and another user said that I should ask here, because "If this is ever going implemented, it has to be global (standardized on all wikis)." ... So here I am.

Any thoughts on this? Mesoderm 07:55, 30 January 2011 (UTC)

This is already linked from History → Page view statistics. --Gadget850 16:24, 30 January 2011 (UTC)
Oops, sorry about that! I never noticed it before. Thanks :) Mesoderm 18:06, 30 January 2011 (UTC)
If by the "Page" menu, you mean the sidebar, then that doesn't have to be standardized on all wikis. As you can see, each wiki is somewhat different in what they do wrt that. Killiondude 07:51, 31 January 2011 (UTC)
