- Leaderbot (talk • contribs • deleted user contributions • logs • block log • abuse log • CentralAuth • stalktoy) Bureaucrats: user rights management.
Not ending before 30 August 2024 05:38 (UTC)
This is for Global reminder bot (for both local Meta and global right expiry reminders). Initially it will not operate with a bot flag, but as the bot grows, it may use a bot flag to write the database at Global reminder bot/database.
Note that the bot already has a bot flag for another task. --Leaderboard (talk) 05:38, 23 August 2024 (UTC)

- So who exactly will be notified when exactly by this bot about what? --MF-W 18:22, 26 August 2024 (UTC)
- @MF-Warburg: I've replied to you at incubator:Incubator:Administrators#User:Leaderbot. On Meta-Wiki, I expect this to impact rights such as IPBE and massmessage on local, and all global rights that require renewal such as AFM and GIE. "When exactly" - approximately a week before the right expires (and only once). Leaderboard (talk) 06:59, 27 August 2024 (UTC)
- We get a lot of WMF staff on this project, any way to easily filter our usernames that contain "WMF"? Our volunteers don't manage these. — xaosflux Talk 14:19, 28 August 2024 (UTC)
- Hi @Xaosflux: that's a good point, but while I can handle that as well, wouldn't it still be useful to notify the WMF users as well? Worst they ignore it, but I could see them wanting to renew (eg using the office policy) just like volunteers. Leaderboard (talk) 14:50, 28 August 2024 (UTC)
- In short, it's not a volunteer concern. Their access is managed by other paid IT staffers, who are responsible for their own access management processes - and they certainly should not be told to go to the "default_global" venue for renewals. Perhaps a regex excludeuser list? — xaosflux Talk 15:02, 28 August 2024 (UTC)
- @Xaosflux While I don't agree with the reasoning, this is something I can indeed adjust the bot to exclude all WMF accounts entirely. Leaderboard (talk) 16:09, 28 August 2024 (UTC)
- @Leaderboard do you disagree about the part where I said that sending them to the SRGP page is inappropriate? We would always deny them there and tell them to see their manager. — xaosflux Talk 16:30, 28 August 2024 (UTC)
- @Xaosflux: Not about that, I disagreed with your reasoning that it's not something for us to bother at all (i.e, my viewpoint was that it's harmless to notify them just like anyone else, but maybe with a slightly modified message). That being said, I've adjusted the script so that it ignores anyone with the substring "WMF" in their username. Leaderboard (talk) 16:32, 28 August 2024 (UTC)
- @Xaosflux: can this be approved? If you require more time, that's fine - just let me know. Leaderboard (talk) 14:23, 31 August 2024 (UTC)

- What if someone does not want to get notified?. – Ammarpad (talk) 15:15, 28 August 2024 (UTC)
- @Ammarpad: As the main page says, that user can simply place their name in Global reminder bot/Exclusion. Leaderboard (talk) 16:08, 28 August 2024 (UTC)
- No outstanding questions or objections above, task approved. — xaosflux Talk 09:55, 6 September 2024 (UTC)
