Request for replacing main page
Hi, I recently added the Tajik Wikipedia to the +1,000 articles on the Www.wikipedia.org template/temp page. I tested it and it works. Could an admin please replace the page. Thanks! - FrancisTyers 17:02, 30 January 2007 (UTC)
- Thanks :) - FrancisTyers 18:18, 30 January 2007 (UTC)
Request for transwiki import
Hi, I'd like to import fr:Wikipédia:Fonctionnement d'OTRS into meta. This is a French page describing how OTRS works; contents are more appropriate for meta than for wp-fr. Thanks! --Gribeco 20:43, 31 January 2007 (UTC)
- Currently only import from wikimediafoundation is possible to meta. You may copy & paste it to this website manually or ask a developer to handle it on bugzilla. --Aphaia 11:21, 1 February 2007 (UTC)
- Okay, I did a copy & paste. --Gribeco 15:49, 1 February 2007 (UTC)
RfA update
There are currently three RfAs, so will some admin please update that number at [1]? Thanks. Nishkid64 21:01, 3 February 2007 (UTC)
Vandal: 216.100.215.5
216.100.215.5, registered to a school, has been a chronic vandal on en:Wikipedia (14 blocks + countless warnings) and is presently blocked there for 13 weeks: (en:Talk) • (en:contribs) • (en:block log)
Now they just vandalised Talk:Spam blacklist.[2]
I suggest blocking them here as well. --A. B. (talk) 19:29, 29 January 2007 (UTC)
- It's been three days since that vandalism, their only edit; let us know if the problem arises again, but I don't think blocking is necessary right now. (Reporting users vandalizing who need to be blocked on the English Wikipedia should go to WP:AIV.) Thanks! Flcelloguy (A note?) 03:19, 3 February 2007 (UTC)
Asynchronous Translations of Wikipedia articles
I have noticed that the content of articles (that is size, depth and imagery) differs significantly between languages. It has even reached a degree that I feel that I cannot rely on one language but need to read other translations to determine quality and completeness. Translations just do not tend to be 1-on-1 but a free interpretation of the translator(s). It feels like Babel-like confusion of Tongues going extreme and even worse, I feel I cannot rely on local translations alone.
What I really miss with wikipedia is the ability to "block-translate" articles, ensuring that article structure is preserved across translations, and that non-translated paragraphs are replaced by those in other (default) languages.
Enforcing this is not a technical but a political commitment, and I am really interested in what the Wiki's standpoint is towards this issue. I have tried to find a method to communicate this and ended here. I hope that this is the right place.

- Would you mind clarifying your request? I'm not too sure what you're asking for. Each Wikipedia in different languages is its separate project; while all under the Wikimedia Foundation, each project develops its own content, enforces its own policies, etc. Though inter-wiki and inter-language cooperation is promoted, including translations of articles from one language to another, there is no official "mechanism" for translation; we rely on people's goodwill in translating articles to a new language, when appropriate. Once translated, each language community can then edit and build off of the translation, so that it may eventually not resemble the original version. Thanks! Number of RfAs
It needs updating, there's 5 now :) --Majorly 18:35, 4 February 2007 (UTC)
- Note that Cool Cat hasn't accepted the nomination yet. --.anaconda 18:39, 4 February 2007 (UTC)
- OK, just a heads up. --Majorly 18:40, 4 February 2007 (UTC)
Needs blocking, inappropriate username. --Majorly 20:47, 4 February 2007 (UTC)
- In my humble opinion, unless s/he pretends a sysop, it causee no disruption (and there is no contribution from this account) ... however I would decline if the community consensus is going to request for blocking this kind of accounts. --Aphaia 21:14, 4 February 2007 (UTC)
- My opinion: if he contributes, he's blocked. --Slade ♠ 21:50, 4 February 2007 (UTC)
- Sounds reasonable. So we are better to warn this user on his or her talk in advance? --Aphaia 23:40, 4 February 2007 (UTC)
- Yes, mentioning the option of rename. --Slade ♠ 23:53, 4 February 2007 (UTC)

Request for admin assistance
The Interwiki Map contains several links that no longer work, are barely in use because of narrow scope, or are possibly inappropriate linkspam. A project has started on enwiki to examine this. I made a related request last month; we've dug up some more defunct links that should be removed. The request is at Talk:Interwiki_map#More nonexistent sites. Thanks, Radiant! 12:06, 29 January 2007 (UTC)
- Done in part, see talk page. --M/ 12:43, 29 January 2007 (UTC)
- Er, no :) you fulfilled somebody else's request, but my request was the section above that. Radiant! 16:36, 29 January 2007 (UTC)
- Done for the right request, I hope. Flcelloguy (A note?) 00:31, 7 February 2007 (UTC)
Request for vote mediation
Hi, we have a vote at Proposals for closing projects/Closure of Siberian Wikipedia that's been dragging on for quite some time now with no end in sight. User:Irpen instituted vote-confirmation checking to deal with sockpuppetry, and as of December the votes have barely changed. Earlier the respective parties in the vote agreed to certain deadlines for the vote to end, deadlines which have long since passed. I am requesting an impartial Wikimedia administrator to handle the ending of this vote and the results thereof. Kazak 04:56, 1 February 2007 (UTC)
- This doesn't seem like it will be an issue an administrator can handle by himself or herself, seeming like more of a Foundation issue. Though I've only very briefly skimmed the (extremely lengthy) discussion, I would suggest that project closures should be directed to the Board or developers following discussion. Flcelloguy (A note?) 00:36, 7 February 2007 (UTC)
- I tend to agree with Flcelloguy ... there is no outcome that a single admin could put in place that would not result in further acrimony, in my view, unfortunately. The Board by policy does not get involved in local matters as a rule but in this case, it seems there is no other way... the matter is a bit bigger than just a single wiki, since it's framed as a closure. When there is clear cut contention about a closure, that's the sort of thorny thing that the board has to decide, and then, it has to be accepted by everyone that the board has in fact decided, and everyone needs to move on. IMHO anyway. ++Lar: t/c 15:56, 7 February 2007 (UTC)
Vandalism in the Talk:Spam blacklist archives?
Is this vandalism[3][4][5] to [[Talk:Spam blacklist/Archives/2005/05]? It looks fishy but it was done by two related IPs, 62.245.207.10 (talk • contribs) and 62.245.207.18 (talk • contribs) that have made other contributions to Meta. This IP is part of a 24-address block registered to EasyInternetcafe in Munich which makes me think it may be a widely shared IP. I can't understand the language on the user's talk page, so I don't know if these are greetings or warnings. This IP has been used to make a number of edits[6][7] on the English language Wikipedia, some of which (in 2005) were not welcome.--A. B. (talk) 21:34, 10 February 2007 (UTC)
- I've reverted his edits to the archives, as archives should not be edited, and changing the name of the site being discussed for addition/removal to the spam blacklist really alters the entire archive. Thanks! Flcelloguy (A note?) 22:18, 10 February 2007 (UTC)
