Local copy of CommonsDelinker

We'd probably need a copy of the CommonsDelinker locally so files can be unlinked automatically once deleted, to avoid leaving red image links on the pages. There is also w:User:ImageRemovalBot which does the same thing locally on English Wikipedia. If you are having problems with the CommonsDelinker script, you could maybe try asking the operator of the English Wikipedia bot instead. --Stefan2 (talk) 13:48, 30 April 2013 (UTC)

Images with insufficient information

Category:Images with unknown license and Category:Images with unknown source contain images tagged with problem templates several years ago. Could something be done to delete old files? For example, by adding something like {{#ifexpr:{{REVISIONTIMESTAMP}}<={{CURRENTTIMESTAMP}}-604800|[[Category:Deleteme]]}} to the "no source" and "no licence" templates (please check for syntax errors), I believe that the files would be added to Category:Deleteme if not edited for 7 days (604800 seconds). --Stefan2 (talk) 01:26, 17 May 2013 (UTC)

I think that the {{event trigger}} template that I imported from en.wikibooks can do it. Notwithstanding, I've experienced issues with it. Not sure why. Problem is that our beloved Meta:Deletion policy only allows to delete unsourced files if they're orphaned. That's nonsense for me and I've raised the issue at Babel once or twice IIRC, but as usual, it was ignored. Notwithstanding, yes, this is a long time needed cleanup that ought to be performed.

Before starting deleting files, I'd like to see that copy of the commonsdelinker working here to avoid leaving broken file links on pages. Can somebody that knows the operator of ImageRemovalBot@enwiki please contact him and tell if he'd be interested in running it here for us?

Interesting... It also seems that unsourced images can be deleted speedily after a week (if orphaned) whereas unlicensed images additionally need to be discussed at WM:RFD, where you need consensus to delete it. --Stefan2 (talk) 17:44, 17 May 2013 (UTC)

Other problems:

• Template:No source does not tell you to notify the uploader.
• Template:Possible copyright violation tells you to notify the uploader using a redlinked template.

Also, I'm not sure how to write a notification message for {{No source}}. The template tells that "Unless the copyright status is provided and a source is given, the image will be deleted seven days after this template was added." However, the wonderful deletion policy tells that images with copyright issues often can't be deleted, so the template currently lies about Meta policy and I'm not sure if we should do the same thing in the notification template too. --Stefan2 (talk) 18:24, 21 May 2013 (UTC)

I noticed an interesting thing. Special:Upload tells that "By uploading a file here to which you hold the copyright, you agree to license it under the terms of the GNU Free Documentation License. If you do not want to use the GFDL, you must upload your files to the Wikimedia Commons." This statement seems to have been in MediaWiki:Uploadtext since 2005. Does this mean that all images uploaded after 26 April 2005 are licensed under the GFDL in all cases where the uploader is the copyright holder, regardless of whether the uploader has stated anything else? --Stefan2 (talk) 22:37, 21 May 2013 (UTC)

Commonshelper.php not supported for Meta?

Hello. On commons:COM:MTC we recommend using commonshelper.php to do the transfers. However I tried to perform a couple of moves and it looks it is not supported for this project. For example, I've tried to move File:Saint-Catherine Church.jpg and it gives me the following error:

Image "File:Saint-Catherine Church.jpg" does not exist on meta.wikimedia!

after having waited for ~10 minutes to load.

As such I tried with it's successor, commonshelper2; that also gives me error messages.

Try w:WP:FTCG instead. It works, but it takes extra time to clean up Meta pages. For example, the tool thinks that Meta uses Meta-language (language code meta). I note that tools:~magog/oldver.php (useful for copying over old versons of files with multiple revisions) also lacks support for Meta. --Stefan2 (talk) 21:29, 17 May 2013 (UTC)

Script for help tagging images

Hi. For those that are helping with the task, I'd like to share with you User:Hoo man/Scripts/Tagger; which is a very helpful tool that can be used to tag files and pages. It is highly customizable. For example I have done it in User:MarcoAurelio/mantenimiento.js. I found it very useful to tag pages missing information, etc. Hope that this is useful.
