Meta talk:What Meta is not

Recent revert

edit

I was recently reverted on this page when I (boldly) added an item. What was the issue with the addition and what can be done about it? --MZMcBride 01:04, 1 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

Suggested additions

edit

Suggested additions based on some misconceptions I've seen over the last 3 years:

  • Meta-Wiki is not the "boss wiki" senior somehow in rank to other Wikimedia projects. With a few narrow, clearly defined exceptions, we have no authority to force changes on other projects and other projects' editors. (The exceptions include things like the spam blacklist and the handling of very little, stagnant wikis). Meta-Wiki administrators enjoy no special authority or prestige on Wikimedia projects -- they simply handle the administrative details of this inter-wiki coordination project; they should not be confused with Stewards.
  • Meta-Wiki is not an appeals court or the UN Security Council. This is not an good place to effectively obtain redress of your grievances about other Wikimedia projects. We're translators and wiki-gnomes, not judges, diplomats or armed peacemakers. If you think you were unfairly blocked on the Freedonian Wikiquote, you will have to take it up with the Freedonian Wikiquote community.

I'm sure others can improve on my language. --A. B. (talk) 17:21, 17 October 2010 (UTC)Reply

Wow, I could have bet you wrote that in response to the recent RfC/RfD brouhaha. But I guess the "bossing" issue came up before. Someone mentioned it on w:WP:AN, but without specific references to prior incidents. ASCIIn2Bme 17:15, 13 February 2012 (UTC)Reply

...you may find help for installing wiki software on your own servers.

Aren't such pages belong to, and were all transwiki-ed to, mediawikiwiki? NguoiDungKhongDinhDanh 05:03, 7 June 2022 (UTC)Reply
