Discussion 1: What composition should the committee have in terms of movement roles, gender, regions, affiliations and other diversity factors?

Some participants said that “skills” should be the most important criteria to take into account. According to them, it is important to have skilled people in the committee independently of gender, regions etc … diversity criteria. Then after the skills, other diversity components can be considered.

According to some other participants, diversity is important. They are of the view that having a committee completely made up of members of the same gender is bad.

One participant mentioned that it was important to ensure that committee members can also be individual contributors not only affiliates.

Discussion 2: What is the best process to select the committee members to form a competent and diverse team?

One person said that members, the community should be engaged with the selection of the committee members through an election or other process that gives the power to the community to choose them . The participant added that some members should be elected and others nominated (70% of elected and 30% of nominated).

Another participant suggested that the committee members should all be elected through a process like the BoT election.

Almost all participants agree that it is important for the process to be legitimized through a full or partial election.

Discussion 3: How much dedication is it reasonable to expect from committee members, in terms of hours per week and months of work?

A participant pointed out that it was important to provide some stipends for the committee members. The same participant said it was important that the committee members sit as long as possible in order to keep the committee homogene.

Opinions

One person suggested that the working hours should be between 5 - 10 hours per week.

Another suggested 2 hours per week since there is a volunteer work.

For a participant it will depend on the committee work will a full volunteer work on not.

Almost all participants said the question is still vague but all agreed that committee members should dedicate at least 2 hours per week.
