Proposals for closing projects/Closure of Bosanski Wikibooks

The following discussion is closed. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section.

This is a proposal for closing and/or deleting a wiki hosted by the Wikimedia Foundation. It is subject to the current closing projects policy.

The proposal is rejected and the project will be kept open.

  • Type: 1 (routine proposal)
  • Proposed outcome: closure
  • Proposed action regarding the content: should be transferred to Wikimedia Incubator
  • Notice on the project: here
  • Informed Group(s): bs.wikipedia (deleted by an user)

The Bosanski Wikibooks exists since 2007. Up to date, it has exactly 37 pages which are counted as content pages by Mediawiki. However, these include 6 referral pages plus at least one overview page. The only real content created consists of one half of the „Wikijunior sun system“.

The only active users are the usual "global user page" creators. Neither an admin, nor the buerocrat has been logged in since five years. (Edit, s. below. --77.176.78.214 16:42, 4 January 2015 (UTC))[reply]

Therefore, I propose to close this wiki for the lack of content/insignificant content since its creation 2007. --77.8.209.12 17:31, 2 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

  • Oppose - I'm an admin there and have been active in the previous year, so your statement is simply not true. I must say though that the project is indeed not very active, but definitely vote against closing it. -- Edinwiki (talk) 19:56, 2 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose -- out of 121 projects Bosnian is number 75[1], there are multiple projects not yet closed that have even less content than Bosnian, if you close down Bosnian, then you would wind up having to close down about at least 4 or 5 other projects such as Malagasy, Belarusian, Welsh and Kurdish. Also being such an official language as Bosnian is, it has great potential to grow, I'd say to give it some more time, its one of those projects that could spring into activity at any time. Abrahamic Faiths (talk) 17:45, 7 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose-per above. Also, Bosnian (and all Serbo-Croatian varieties in general) have a reasonable number of speakers, and therefore potential users of Wikimedia projects.--176.104.110.11 19:16, 28 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment. Edinwiki, since you deleted the "Notice on the project" (see above) about this closure discussion, you should either restore that notice or post on your wiki's equivalent of the Village Pump pointing your readers and editors to this discussion. - dcljr (talk) 22:01, 28 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Done. Reverted the change because I considered it was not the right place for such notices. Such notices should be placed on the local village pump. -- Edinwiki (talk) 15:24, 5 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose - I don't think this Wiki is very useful or used and I think it might benefit from being moved to the Incubator but I don't think we should delete it completely. Reguyla (talk) 17:14, 4 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Moving a wiki to Incubator is exacly what "closure" means. - dcljr (talk) 02:34, 8 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose Inactivity is not a reason. Macadam1 (talk) 10:44, 13 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose Bosnian is an important historical European language. We must keep open this project. --Sarvaturi (talk) 16:33, 25 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose as Sarvaturi. --Josep Maria Roca Peña (talk) 09:34, 5 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment. In the 13 months since this closure discussion started, the wiki has only (apparently) gained 1 content page (it now stands at 38). It would be nice if anyone opposed to this proposal could actually contribute some content over there. Here's some info about the wiki: There are currently 50 non-redirect pages in the main namespace. Three of these are the Main Page ("Početna strana") and 2 subpages, none of which have changed in any significant way since October 2006. Of the remaining 46 pages, 14 have seen changes since this discussion started in January 2015: 1 is a new page with a couple of paragraphs of actual content; 2 had some additional text added (a few phrases/sentences and a couple of paragraphs, respectively); 4 had spelling changes (1 of which also had a missing image removed by a bot); 1 had a section heading changed; 1 had all its "File:" links changed to the local-language equivalent; 2 others had images changed or removed; 1 had its interwiki links removed (so Wikidata could handle them); 2 had edits that have since been reverted; and 2 have had {delete} templates added to them (by me, just now :). Of the 35 pages that haven't been edited since 2014, 7 haven't been edited at all since they were created (only 3 of which have what I would call "real content"); 5 have been edited multiple times but by only one user (the article creator); 2 have seen only minor spelling changes since their creation; 5 have had minor formatting, categorization, image links, or interwiki links changes; and the remaning 16 pages have benefitted from what one might call "normal editing" (fitting in none of the previous categories). FYI… - dcljr (talk) 02:34, 8 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support It's so small and completely inactive. --Doostdar (talk) 13:54, 8 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support While I agree that Bosnian is an important language of historic significance, a lack of any significant development in this project signifies a lack of public interest in this project -- QuotidianPaperclip (talk)
  • Support Only 3 logged actions in 30 days, too low content. --Gce (talk) 22:15, 28 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose Inactivity is not a reason. --Rschen7754 05:39, 18 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support. Since 2007 only 37 pages created, only 2 edits in last 30 days are made (edits without real meaning). 3 of 5 random pages that I've checked are just substubs of 1-2 strings. This is dead project, with no Bosnian contributors who want to improve it. --Wolverène (talk) 12:26, 23 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose per Abrahamic Faiths. Zhangj1079 (talk) 14:02, 31 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Comment Have a look at these sample pages from Bosanski Wikibooks:
Prirodne nauke (the last edit was in 2006/2007)
Wiki junior in Bosanski (the sub-project has just one half-completed book "Wikijunior sun system")
one sample page of Blender 3D: Noob to Pro (all in English and like a spam)
Blender 3D: Noob to Pro (text is copied from English WB and had no change)
probably an introduction to English (lack of content)
probably an introduction to Spanish (maybe a good page on the project!)
no content (almost empty, the last edit in 2006/2007)
some rich text (may be a spam)
Inroduction to Wikibooks (with many red links)
a stub probably on history (just some red links)
no content (almost empty, the last edit in 2006/2007)
maybe the only useful content on the project (a book with 3 sub-pages and many red links)
These are almost all you can see in the project. Besides, in the past month just 2 edits were done! So the project suffers a lack of content apart from inactivity. Even the only admin did not do an edit for a long time even though had the first vote on current page. --Doostdar (talk) 16:24, 9 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Merge with the other former Yugoslavian Wikibookses into a sh.wikibooks. Sh.wiki is the only one of the former Yugoslavian Wikipedias that deserves to exist, as the other ones are basically POV forks like mo.wiki and ru-sib.wiki were. KATMAKROFAN (talk) 01:41, 14 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
There is not such a wiki. It's better to get closed. --Doostdar (talk) 13:06, 5 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]
