Proposal

edit

The Kyrgyz Wikibooks is a lot smaller than what I first pictured when I heard the words "Kyrgyz Wikibooks". Despite that, it already has an RfC, one that is wrong in one aspect. The claim of 6 legitimate book modules. That's off by five. Why? Most of them are just information pages about random stuff and there's also one that's formatted like an offseason April Fool's joke with random asterisks everywhere. The one that is legitimate according to both me and User:Rschen7754 is b:ky:Электрондук почта. Even that is kind of like a documentation page for email that just goes really in-depth about how it works. I was not able to find any other even slightly fitting or original content. That's called lack of content since the wiki's creation. The Wikibooks has just three native speakers of Kyrgyz registered and one or two could be lying. The number of contributions by all of them combined is 4. If not even native speakers of Kyrgyz are interested in making Kyrgyz Wikibooks not get a closure proposal, why would anyone? You can read more about the pages in detail in Rschen7754's RfC, and I propose that the Kyrgyz Wikibooks be closed for good because of the reasons I provided. Discussion

  • I'm not going to !vote here since I've mostly retired from Wikimedia projects and don't really have the time to do a lot of research. I also am not a Kyrgyz or a Wikibooks expert. But I do have to say, reading what I wrote in the RFC, that there are serious problems on this wiki that should be addressed, even if the result isn't a closure. --Rschen7754 18:24, 27 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
  • ky.wikibooks has no sysops, but (except commonly known bot-like Abuse filter (talk · contribs)) ky.wikipedia has one: @Bosogo:, maybe we need their opinions about situation of ky projects. --Liuxinyu970226 (talk) 23:41, 28 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support. The project has only seen 443 edits in total since it was opened over 20 years ago (ignoring edits to deleted pages, bot edits, user/user talk page edits, and a wave of page move vandalism in 2024) [1]. Many of these are vandalism and vandalism reverts as well as technical maintenance edits (fixing lint errors, global users editing MediaWiki: pages). Some of the more recent edits add content that belongs on Kyrgyz Wikipedia, including someone adding a description of what accounting is to the "Category:Accounting" page and an article on the "vector dominance model". Other pages are likely copyvios.

In general it seems to me that the Kyrgyz wiki editing community simply has no need for this site, nor any energy to maintain it.

The Kyrgyz Wikipedia contributor Aiyanakk (talk · contribs) made some edits to Wikibooks to fix templates and so forth within the past year, and may be able to offer some input. This, that and the other (talk) 07:03, 30 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

  • Support Fulfils the "lack of meaningful content since creation" criterion. While Wikibooks is generally not that edit-heavy as a Wikipedia is, the fact basically nothing was created in 20 (!) years speaks volumes that even having a fairly stable living language like Kyrgyz is doesn't translate to a successful wiki project.--176.104.110.11 17:22, 30 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
  • I do not speak the language either but I think all the files lack a license and should be deleted anyway. See b:ky:Special:ListFiles. --MGA73 (talk) 17:29, 30 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
