Proposals for closing projects/Closure of Swedish Wikiversity
This is a proposal for closing and/or deleting a wiki hosted by the Wikimedia Foundation. It is subject to the current closing projects policy.
The proposal for closing sv:v: is rejected and the project will be kept open.
- A Language Committee member provided the following comment: Users have already added a sitenotice that says Swedish Wikiversity is no longer active. Langcom considers this as a "soft closure" as used to be done in the past. --MF-W 15:29, 11 April 2023 (UTC)
- Type: 1 (routine proposal)
- Proposed outcome: closure
- Proposed action regarding the content:
- Notice on the project: sv:v:Wikiversity:Café#Kanske dags snart att göra samma med svenska Wikiversity som med svenska Wikinews?
- Informed Group(s): Wikimedia Sverige
I am requesting a closure for several reasons.
- There is practically no one who is editing on the project. A few years ago we used to have some users who were active but now there is no one and the last one has not edited since October 2020.
- The project does not have a single local admin. It used to have an admin but he has not edited on Wikiversity since 2016 and got his rights removed in July 2019. I saw a spam article a while ago that I had to report to Global sysops/Requests.
- I checked recent changes a while ago, sorted out the log actions and saw four edits, three of them were user page creation and one was a mass message delivery by a bot.
- A look in the creation log shows that there are no pages created since October 2020 that are not vandalism, spambots or user page creations.
- The project is full of spambots and vandalism that no one on the project is taking care of. I checked today and I found five vandalism edits laying for over two days which no one had reverted.
- The speedy deletion category sv:v:Kategori:Snabba raderingar has pages laying for over a year, untouched.
- On the adminship request page, there are two votings that has been laying for years. The oldest one is from 2014 (!)
We had a discussion on the project where six people supported the closure of Swedish Wikiversity. There was a discussion on Swedish Wikipedia too, where no one was against this action either and we removed Wikiversity from the Wikipedia-sisters page. I think, with all these reasons, that we should close Swedish Wikiversity. A project that just has spambots that no one is going to take care of in a long time, if ever, isn't good advertising for WMF. It's sad to close the project but now it feels like it's just a failure. We can open the project again once there are one or more people that want to take care of the project. EPIC (talk) 18:04, 21 June 2021 (UTC)
- On point 6, EPIC, if you don't count the edits where {{radera}} was inserted, on the first page, the last edit was from 2 December 2014 at 15.14 (lying around, untouched for 6 years until the template was added. This also demonstrates points 1, 2 and 4. AnotherEditor144 t - c 08:07, 24 August 2021 (UTC)

edit- Support It seems that soft closure isn't working for this wiki, the cross-wiki spams still occur, so converting to official closure. --Liuxinyu970226 (talk) 22:39, 10 July 2021 (UTC)
- Support per proposal. Lock the project, delete and protect the pages needed and unlock the wiki when someone wants to give the project some support. Do not delete it, keep it since it is used by teachers. EPIC (talk) 09:40, 16 July 2021 (UTC)
- Support, as I have looked up the moribund cafe. Unless you find a good admin, it will be spammed by LTAs, e.g. this one. Zezen (talk) 23:26, 29 July 2021 (UTC)
- They actually seem to be correct (except from the date). "[I]t was fun as long as it lasted - but until someone takes care of the project, this may be closed until further notice." - AnotherEditor144 t - c 15:29, 21 August 2021 (UTC)
- In full, the italics read:
- "Now, at my request at Meta, a steward has locked the main page and posted a banner that the project has been closed. Hi there Wikiversity - it was fun as long as it lasted - but until someone takes care of the project, this may be closed until further notice, on June 18, 2021 at 7.59 am."
- And it should be closed, and the main page locked, due to inactivity. - AnotherEditor144 t - c 15:30, 21 August 2021 (UTC)
- Also, they seem to be "nu är vi fem för" (five for [close] and one for [keep]), according to EPIC (with the one being Historiker).
- They are correct: "Changed write protection settings for "Portal: Main page"" on the same day. All of this leads up to a closure! AnotherEditor144 t - c 15:45, 21 August 2021 (UTC)
- Support, most entries in v:sv:Special:RecentChanges are just things like "User account MarcoDey1200 has been created". AnotherEditor144 t - c 15:19, 21 August 2021 (UTC)
- The last action relating to pages was on the 20th of August: "(Deletion log) 03:28 Hasley (talk | contribs) deleted Купить Диплом Университета (spam (global sysop action)). AnotherEditor144 t - c 15:25, 21 August 2021 (UTC)
- So still from global actions, nothing happened locally. Liuxinyu970226 (talk) 23:11, 2 September 2021 (UTC)
- AnotherEditor144, you are currently focusing on the current situation. Spam and vandalism is dealt with the SWMT. That is not a good reason to close a project down. SHB2000 (talk | contibs) 12:54, 14 September 2021 (UTC)

- Support No activity, no admins, just a lot of spam. Those are good reasons to close a wiki down. Fluxqi (talk) 11:15, 2 October 2021 (UTC)
- Support I'm seeing no evidence that the proposal below has materialised. The spambot attacks continue unabated, and there is no activity on this project. JavaHurricane 05:03, 25 October 2021 (UTC)

Oppose
edit- Oppose - The content is still in use even if not being edited at the moment (I know teachers that use it as a resource). We have a user that has volunteered to become a local admin and take responsibility for cleaning up spam and vandalism, with that a lot of the problems EPIC rises will be fixed. This project has been going up and down in activity earlier too, with a soft closure the possibility for renewal, more content and active users in the future, is much more likely. //Vätte (talk) 10:00, 15 July 2021 (UTC)
- I'm opposing the closure too but in fairness, the user who expressed a wish to become a local sysop, got lost from the wiki right after... --Wolverène (talk) 12:32, 22 March 2023 (UTC)

- Oppose as a concrete proposal for fixing the problems mentioned has been made and so closure would be premature in my view, Atlantic306 (talk) 23:20, 19 July 2021 (UTC)

- Oppose per closure policy, inactivity is never a reason to close a wiki and appropriate measures are in place to prevent bot vandalism. As said if there is no "absence of content" I don't see how it should be closed. Perhaps a soft closure would be doable though. WikiAviator (talk) 07:27, 8 April 2022 (UTC)
- Oppose per Closing projects policy: "Inactivity in itself is no valid reason" and there is no "absence of content since the wiki's creation". We have the Small Wiki Monitoring Team to deal with spam and vandalism. I have not been able to identify unacceptably large amounts of unambiguous spam or vandalism on the Swedish Wikiversity. It might be possible to quickly expand this wikiversity with material from wikiskola.se, which appears to be larger and has a compatible creative commons licence. I am unable to believe that a wikiversity in an official language of Sweden and Finland with more than 10 million native speakers and 3 million L2 speakers will remain permanently inactive after this request is closed. James500 (talk) 07:51, 3 January 2023 (UTC)
- Oppose. It's not empty, it has signs of stable activity in a past, it's just temporary dormant. I hate the idea that the Swedish-speaking community, one of the most active language communities of the WMF projects, will always be indifferent to the project. We just need a sysop who's going to react quickly on spam/vandalism, it's the only critical issue here. That inactivity issue will be solved somewhen. --Wolverène (talk) 12:21, 22 March 2023 (UTC)
