Proposals for new projects/Wickedpedia

Wickedpedia: The rotten encyclopedia, a proposal

(This is a proposal by Stw. You are encouraged to add your thoughts)

Inspired by the Rotten Library, I thought of a wiki for all the offending, rotten and dubious things. See the website for what I'm thinking of. Here's a summary:

  • Conspiracies
    • NSA, FBI
    • Aliens, UFOs
    • Illuminati,
    • FNORD
  • Crime
    • Unsolved crimes
    • Corporate crime
  • Hoaxes
  • Occultism
  • Religion
  • Sex
  • ...

This wiki would be very offensive to some people, and in my opinion a NPOV is impossible to achieve on some topics.

Intended Audience

edit

Certainly not little children (unless they're hot). There would have to be a big fat warning on the front page.

Oh, sure! Act all patronizing and HYPOCRITICALLY conservative and overprotective...
Not at all! But as long as the lawyer is the king of the modern society, this sort of caution has to be taken. Stw
And then as soon as google indexes it, your front-page warning becomes worthless anyway.
There is always a session-based warning available that works in every subpage.
Just a thought, since Wikipedia is not censored for minors (come to think of it, its not censored for anyone), why should we censor this? Its up to parents and guardians of kids to ensure they don't see this stuff. Its not our job to decide what people should and should not see. Name suggestions

edit

Wickedpedia is the name that first came to my mind but would obviously be a bad choice, as it wicked sounds very much like wiki. Other suggestions:

  • ...

ok i have an idea..... the notsopleasantpedia?

Discussion

edit

Pros:

  • come on, who doesn't want to know all the things nobody's allowed to know? ;-)
  • Quoting [1]: all that mankind swore to forget, but which we have trapped in agonizing clarity to remember always

Cons:

  • Probably sheds a bad light on the wikipedia project and the wikimedia foundation.
  • IMO, this is not in the Wikimedia mandate. But go ahead and start a project like this on your own. --mav 00:42, 18 Jan 2004 (UTC)

Other thoughts:

  • What do you think? Stw 18:38, 17 Jan 2004 (UTC)
Sex isn't wicked or rotten or or dubious... But religion, on the other hand...
I agree. But a lot of people, it seems, don't. Or how would you explain the taboos and unreasonable fears that still exist? See w:Joseph Cardinal Ratzinger for an excellent example. Can you believe people actually believe the rubbish this guy makes up? (e.g. birth control is bad, homosexuals are to be despised etc) But I must stop now, or it'll get offending... Stw
