Réseau @pprendre (Learning Network)/Objectives
- Promoting Wikimedia projects within education in French-speaking West African countries, our objective encompasses various projects adapted to the specific needs of the region:
- Wikipedia: launch of educational programs on Wikipedia such as «Reading Wikipedia in the Classroom» and «Wiki Education Challenges» in countries where these initiatives have not yet begun.
- Wikidata: Introducing Wikidata to students, especially those in data science, as well as various specializations involving data. In addition, we will be working on the Wikidata for Education program to ensure that wiki content can be aligned with school curricula and easily accessed by teachers and students to meet their learning objectives.
- Wikinews: Introduce Wikinews to journalism students and initiate collaborative programs with universities and schools.
- WikiSource: Encourage students to get involved in book proofreading and contribute content to this valuable project.
- Wikiversités : Collaborate with partners to develop free courses in French, adapted to the local context.
- Wikibooks: Initiate projects and challenges within schools and universities to facilitate the creation of free books by students.
- Wikispecies: Introduction of Wikispecies to science courses and launch of programs to enrich content related to the flora and fauna of the West African region.
- WikiCommons : Particular emphasis on increasing the number of multimedia files adapted to localized educational contexts.
- Cultivate the growth of new communities and facilitate the establishment of affiliates in countries with no existing representation by harnessing the potential of Wiki in educational projects and actively building and maintaining new community networks.
- Establishing partnerships with existing Wikimedia communities in Africa : it is not our intention to supplant local groups or to create competition. Instead, we will seek collaboration, with the aim of joining forces around a shared vision and commitment to education-focused initiatives. For example, we have already agreed with Wikimedia Tchad and Wikimedia Togo to collaborate on new activities in 2024. Please refer to the strategy below to work with existing groups.
- Developing and distributing open educational resources (REL) derived from wiki content, in collaboration with education experts and other partners. One notable initiative involves a partnership with Kiwix to create mobile applications offering offline wiki content for use on tablets in schools.
- Establish collaborations with Non-Governmental Organizations operating in the education sector, introducing them to the Wiki movement and promoting joint efforts in educational projects using Wikimedia platforms.
