Réseau @pprendre of French-speaking West Africa Wikimedians User Group/Activities


Scope

This group is a thematic group aiming to promote educational projects and initiatives using Wikimedia projects and other open-source tools in French Speaking West African Countries.[1][2]

The scope of this planned User Group is to cover activities in French-speaking West African countries with a special focus on countries without recognized affiliates:

Past Executed Activities

  •   Done Août 2021 Les vacances de wikimedia au collège : Wikimedia Holidays at the College: The goal was to introduce 30 middle school students to Wikimedia Foundation projects, particularly Wikipedia in French and Commons.
  •   Done 2021 Enseigner et évaluer avec wikipedia à l'UAC Teaching and Evaluating with Wikipedia at UAC (University of Abomey-Calavi): The objective was to encourage young teachers to use Wikipedia as a teaching and assessment platform.
  •   Done Wiki Tours North Benin : The goal of this Wiki Tours was to raise awareness in other localities of Benin, specifically in the northern part of the country, about Wikimedia Foundation projects. This project involved visiting three localities in Benin: Djougou, Kandi, and Malanville, and introducing Wikipedia and its associated projects to high school students in this part of the country. The activities took place in the computer labs of these schools.
  •   Done Samedi Wiki in Guinée : The campaign takes place throughout the school year, specifically on the last Saturday of each month, at a school or college. Its main aim is to establish new Wikimedia hubs or strengthen the capacities of existing ones.
  •   Done: Reading Wikipedia in Classroom in Djougou, Benin: This program provides teachers with the knowledge and skills necessary to use Wikipedia as an educational tool.[3]

Planned Future Activities

  •   Done: 228 Wiki Education is a project that will be implemented in Togo from April 5 to May 5, 2024
  •   Done: Wiki Club Education (Tchad) is a project that will be implemented in Chad from April 1 to May 31, 2024
  •   Done: WikiMolakisi (RDC) is a project that will be implemented in DRC from April 27 to June 30, 2024

Online activity

We're creating online community spaces for education professionals.[5][6] Teaching the Réseau @pprendre referents on Wikisource.[7]


  • Wikidata For Educationː The group is eager to get involved in the Wikidata for Education project by organizing workshops to improve content related to school curricula in the West African francophone countries.
 
  • Make available offline mobile applications with educational content in French using Kiwix techonlogy.
