Requests for comment/Sysop abuse on English Wiktionary

Hi there all. As I have been watching a current admin on the English Wiktionary, wikt:en:User:SemperBlotto, he has been using the blocking tool for blocking IPs for making bad edits after only the first edit. This was not what the block tool was meant to do and this is not what I want to see from an administrator on this site. Blocks are meant to be used for blocking users after multiple bad edits, not just after a single bad edit. If he were to block every perosn making bad edits, or making a single bad edit, he would have blocked every single editor on that site but himself, because every editor, whether they want to or not, will make a bad edit. Furthermore, he has been deleting pages that are appropriate content for this site, but are badly formatted. This is borderline abuse of the deletion tool. I would like to see him desysopped for this, as he obviously does not care whether or not users or there for the right reasons. Thanks, Razorflame 14:54, 10 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

If Razorflame had listened to our replies, he would have learned that the blocks are legitimate: we routinely block IP addresses for short times when edits, including single edits, clearly indicate every intent to vandalize, and no intent to contribute. Often, the edits are direct personal attacks ("so and so is gay") and require immediate action. (At the same time, we quietly revert the page so as not to draw attention to the personal attack in RC etc.) The blocks are done with and for the precise purpose that blocks are intended, not to punish, but simply to suppress damage for a limited time so other work can be done. And if you had better behavior, and did not clearly violate the policies for administrators, both you and SemperBlotto would be in the clear now, wouldn't you? I would further like to add RobertUllmann to the administrators on the English Wiktionary. Both SP's and RU's behavior during this was unacceptable for an administrator. TWIMC: I think Razorflame is having a bad day; he/she is engaging in escalating personal attacks and threats; I would strongly suggest just letting this cool down.
