Requests for new languages/Wikibooks Lojban

submitted verification final decision

This proposal has been rejected.
While this request has technically been rejected, in reality this is a request that has been sitting open or on hold for a long time with little evidence of a community coming together to build a project. If a community comes together in the future and makes a new request, LangCom would consider that new request without prejudice.

A committee member provided the following comment:

No material was created over the course of over a year that this proposal was on hold. Rejected as stale. For LangCom: StevenJ81 (talk) 21:11, 6 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • The community needs to develop an active test project; it must remain active until approval (automated statistics, recent changes). It is generally considered active if the analysis lists at least three active, not-grayed-out editors listed in the sections for the previous few months.
  • The community needs to complete required MediaWiki interface translations in that language (about localization, translatewiki, check completion).
  • The community needs to discuss and complete the settings table below:
What Value Example / Explanation
Proposal
Language code jbo (SILGlottolog) A valid ISO 639-1 or 639-3 language code, like "fr", "de", "nso", ...
Language name Lojban Language name in English
Language name jbobau Language name in your language. This will appear in the language list on Special:Preferences, in the interwiki sidebar on other wikis, ...
Language Wikidata item Q36350 - item has currently the following values:
Item about the language at Wikidata. It would normally include the Wikimedia language code, name of the language, etc. Please complete at Wikidata if needed.
Directionality no indication Is the language written from left to right (LTR) or from right to left (RTL)?
Links Links to previous requests, or references to external websites or documents.

Settings
Project name uitkicukta "Wikibooks" in your language
Project namespace uitkicukta usually the same as the project name
Project talk namespace casno la uitkicukta "Wikibooks talk" (the discussion namespace of the project namespace)
Enable uploads no Default is "no". Preferably, files should be uploaded to Commons.
If you want, you can enable local file uploading, either by any user ("yes") or by administrators only ("admin").
Notes: (1) This setting can be changed afterwards. The setting can only be "yes" or "admin" at approval if the test creates an Exemption Doctrine Policy (EDP) first. (2) Files on Commons can be used on all Wikis. (3) Uploading fair-use images is not allowed on Commons (more info). (4) Localisation to your language may be insufficient on Commons.
Optional settings
Project logo This needs to be an SVG image (instructions for logo creation).
Default project timezone Europe/London "Continent/City", e.g. "Europe/Brussels" or "America/Mexico City" (see list of valid timezones)
Additional namespaces uitkidjunia, casno la uitkidjunia, cidja, casno lo cidja For example, a Wikisource would need "Page", "Page talk", "Index", "Index talk", "Author", "Author talk".
Additional settings Anything else that should be set
Once settings are finalized, a committee member will submit a Phabricator task requesting creation of the wiki. (This will include everything automatically, except the additional namespaces/settings.) After the task is created, it should be linked to in a comment under "final decision" above.

Proposal

edit

There are only a few active editors on the Lojban Wikipedia, and almost none on the Lojban Wiktionary, but it's a niche conlang, so that's to be expected - "not enough people interested" would not be a valid oppose in this case. If we can have an encyclopedia in Elefen (waiting on the developers), a compendium of quotations in Latin, and a dictionary in Old English, we can have textbooks in Lojban. --KATMAKROFAN (talk) 18:16, 25 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Discussion

Oppose This does not seem like a serious proposal. To me, it seems like you are simply making this proposal out of spite. The reason Elefen Wikipedia, Latin Wikiquote, and Old English Wiktionary even exist in the first place is because there was a community willing to provide content. The same goes for Lojban Wikipedia. Whether that community is still there or not is irrelevant. Unless there is a community behind this project, I think this proposal is frivolous. It is, after all, being made by someone who tried to close Lojban Wikipedia in bad faith... DraconicDark (talk) 01:01, 26 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Oppose Oh irony of ironies! A man can change a lot in five months. Someone who, back in October, was convinced Lojban was not a serious language because it contains no nouns or verbs, now wants to expand its coverage! Either you have studied a bit and now adjusted your opinion about Lojban, or you are simply a troll craving for attention. I'll give you the benefit of doubt. Keep active for a while at the Lojban Wikipedia, like you have been lately, get involved in the Lojban community, draw new people to the project. If you keep it running for a long time, you might one day start Lojban Wikibooks. But only if it is meaningful in the wider context of Wikimedia and the Lojban community, not for its own sake. This is a serious proposal. I am not a troll who thinks that Lojban was created by George Soros and the Jews to brainwash Esperantists into giving up their guns to the Illuminati NWO ZOG; I just had a change of heart. KATMAKROFAN (talk) 17:44, 26 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
