Requests for new languages/Wikinews Basque
submitted | verification | final decision |
|
This language has been verified as eligible. The language is eligible for a project, which means that the subdomain can be created once there is an active community and a localized interface, as described in the language proposal policy. You can discuss the creation of this language project on this page. Once the criteria are met, the language committee can proceed with the approval. If you think the criteria are met, but the project is still waiting for approval, feel free to notify the committee and ask them to consider its approval. |
- The community needs to develop an active test project; it must remain active until approval (automated statistics, recent changes). It is generally considered active if the analysis lists at least three active, not-grayed-out editors listed in the sections for the previous few months.
- The community needs to complete required MediaWiki interface translations in that language (about localization, translatewiki, check completion).
- The community needs to discuss and complete the settings table below:

Arguments in favour
edit- Support Support Basque is a language that is different from all the other languages there are. The Wikipedia runs good. There are many people who speak basque. --Ooswesthoesbes 15:59, 14 July 2007 (UTC)

- Support Support Good idea, and Basque projects are good--Bengoa (My user talk) 18:21, 10 May 2008 (UTC)
- Support Support It's a extremely good idea to create Basque Wikinews. Although Basque is a small language (spoken by +1,200,000 people worldwide), it should have Wikinews proyect. i think it's very interesting and many people would contribute. For example the Basque Wikipedia has 35,000 articles and more than 3,000 users. I think that this proposal should be accepted. Moreover, has this proyect any inconvenience? --An13sa 18:35, 26 January 2009 (UTC)

- Support Support Basque language is becoming very alive (both in France and in Spain), I think a Wikinews project is important. --Sarvaturi 08:36, 27 June 2010 (UTC)
Arguments against
edit- Oppose Oppose I'm not saying it would be a bad idea I just don't believe there would be enough people to keep it running (Red4tribe 16:00, 23 April 2008 (UTC))
- Oppose Oppose The Basque Wikipedia is to small to have a News spinoff. --jeroen 02:01, 21 July 2008 (UTC)

General discussion
editFirst, I'm sorry because of my English.
I think the Basque language needs a Wikinews in euskara. The basque language has his wikipedia, with 26,000 articles actually, and more tham 2,000 users. Basque is a litle language between big languages (French, Spanish...) but I have to sau that: Basque is the first language in Europe, I think a Basque Wikinews will be interesting.—The preceding unsigned comment was added by Arah_eh (talk • contribs) .Tosão 14:02, 23 February 2009 (UTC)
- I agree with you. Basque is the oldest language in Europe (it has more than 3,000 years) and it should have a wikinews page. Tosão I have to correct you. Now (2009-february), the Basque wikipedia has 35,283 articles and 7,153 users. See [1] for more statistics.
